Women's Soccer Aims to Stay Undefeated As SCAC Play Begins

Shreveport – The Centenary women's soccer team aims to remain undefeated when the Ladies welcome the Johnson and Wales Wildcats to town Friday for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The conference match is set for 5 p.m. at Mayo Field between the Ladies (8-0) and Wildcats (2-7). The two teams previously met back on Sept. 15 in Colorado with the Ladies winning 4-1. Johnson and Wales enters Friday's match having lost five straight.

Centenary is off to its best start in program history, and is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA Division III Poll for the West Region. The Ladies sit atop the SCAC standings as conference play begins this weekend.

The Ladies edged the University of Dallas, 2-1 on Sunday to improve to 4-0 at home this season and have outscored their last five opponents 14-4. The Ladies are the only undefeated team remaining in the conference. The Maroon and White have a 23-8 advantage in goals scored this season against its competition and have allowed one goal or less in six of their eight matches.

Centenary senior midfielder Migui Boldrin (Ribeiaro, Brazil) scored four goals and had two assists in three games last week for the Ladies and also added two assists. Boldrin has a team-best nine goals this season and three of her goals have been game winners.

Boldrin leads the SCAC in goals, goals per game, shots, shots per game, points, and points per game, and game-winning goals and has a pair of multi-goal games to her credit.  She had one goal and one assist against Hendrix on Sept. 24, a goal and an assist versus Austin College on Sept. 27, and two goals versus U-Dallas on Sept. 29.

Fellow senior Kyra Montes, a Shreveport native, has five goals this season in just four games played. Three of her goals have been game winners and she has added three assists. Montes was recently presented with an incredible opportunity as she was invited to play for the Nicaragua Women's National Team in their next two games against Costa Rica and El Salvador coming up this weekend so she will miss Friday's match.

Freshman Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) leads the team with five assists and seniors Betza Bravo (Katy, Texas), Emilee Byrd (Shreveport), and freshman Ariel Muller (Groves, Texas) have combined to score seven goals and have three assists.

Following Friday's match, the Ladies will have the week off before returning to action next weekend with a pair of road matches. Centenary meets Schreiner on Friday, Oct. 11 and then faces Trinity on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Live stats and live video stream will be available for Friday's match against Johnson and Wales and admission is FREE to the match. #GoCentenary #CTheOpportunity
