Women's Soccer Places Four On 2019 All-SCAC Team; Migui Boldrin Named Offensive Player of the Year

Lawrenceville, Ga. – The Centenary women's soccer team placed four players on the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Soccer All-SCAC Team highlighted by senior Migui Boldrin being named the 2019 SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, it was announced on Thursday following exclusive voting by the league's head women's soccer coaches

Boldrin, a native of Ribeiaro, Brazil, was also a First Team selection and joined by fellow senior and Shreveport native Kyra Montes. Senior midfielder Betza Bravo (Katy, Texas) was a Second Team selection and freshman midfielder Yosi Bouslog (Friendswood, Texas) earned Honorable Mention honors.

Trinity University's Kristen Canepa was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, Alyssa Mencacci of University of Dallas was tabbed the league's Newcomerof the Year, and Trinity head coach Dylan Harrison was named SCAC Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year.

Boldrin leads the SCAC in goals (16), shots (92) and points (39) and is tied for the league lead in game-winning goals (4). She also had four multiple-goal games – the most in the SCAC. With her next shot, Boldrin will have amassed the most shots by a SCAC women's player in a single season since 2014. A two-time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week during the regular season, Boldrin is second in the SCAC in points per game (2.29) and tied for third in assists (7). In her team's eight conference matches, she scored a goal or recorded an assist in five of them.

"Migui has been one of the best players in the conference this year and she was more than deserving of the Conference Player of the Year Award she's been given," said Centenary head coach Greg Cathell.

"A game changer both in the middle and offensive thirds of the field, Migui has done everything that's been asked of her and more. We couldn't be happier for both her and our team's success this year."

The Ladies (15-2, 6-2) earned the No. 3 seed in the 2019 SCAC Women's Soccer Championship and will face No. 6 seed Schreiner (5-11-3, 1-6-1 SCAC) at 1:30 p.m. on Friday in Georgetown, Texas, hosted by Southwestern at Varsity Field. Centenary lost 2-1 in double overtime to Southwestern at home on Sunday in its regular-season finale as the Ladies lost for the first and only time at home all season, finishing a superb 8-1 at Mayo Field.

The Ladies and Pirates finished in a tie for second place in the conference standings with 6-2 records but Southwestern earned the No. 2 seed by virtue of Sunday's victory. Southwestern awaits the Schreiner-Centenary winner at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Maroon and White completed one of the most impressive regular seasons in school history this season. The 2019 Ladies set new program marks for wins in a season in the division III era (15), goals in a single game (six), goals in a season (46), points in a season (129) and assists in a season (37). The Ladies also went 6-1 away from home this season and allowed one goal or less in 12 of 17 matches this season. Centenary has also been being ranked six weeks in a row in the United Soccer Coaches West Regional Poll.

Superstars Montes and Boldrin finished the regular season first and second in the SCAC in points, points per game, goals, goals per game, and game-winning goals. Montes leads the conference in assists, assists per game, while Boldrin leads in shots and shots per game. The dynamic duo has combined for an astounding 27 goals, 17 assists, 71 points, and eight game-winning goals this season.

Boldrin becomes the first player in the current division III era to be named the conference Player of the Year. Montes earns the distinction of being named a First team selection all three seasons for the Ladies, the only player in the division III era of the program to do so. Bravo was named all-conference for the third time in her career after being named to the Honorable Mention squad in 2017 and to the second team last season.

"Kyra will go down in Centenary College Ladies Soccer history as one of the best players to step on the field," said Cathell. She was a more than an impact player for us, she was one of the best players in the region and I'm so glad the conference agreed. To be a three-time First Team All-Conference Selection is a feat that isn't attained often and we couldn't be more proud that Kyra has called Centenary home over the last three years."

"Betza had a great year for us in both goals and assists (5 goals; 3 assists). She also took a big step forward with her ability to play the ball into the wings more with some dangerous driven diagonal balls that helped spring our transition. A player who has always been strong shoulder to shoulder we really saw a jump in her proficiency to create goal scoring opportunities and make us a more threatening team on the counter."

"Yosi was everything we thought she'd be in a player for us and more. She plays the game the right way and shows magnificent composure on the field. At times we bring her forward on corners, she always wins 50/50 balls and she's a very coach-able player. She was a pillar for us in the back and certainly the type of player we look forward to having lead our back line for years to come."

Centenary ranks seconds in the SCAC in both points and goals and second in assists, assists per game, and goals per game. The Ladies also allowed the fourth-fewest goals in the conference and their goals against average was third-best.

Cathell has now produced 11 All-SCAC players in his three seasons at the helm including five First-Team selections and one Offensive Player of the Year. Cathell is now 24-8 in his last two seasons with 12 SCAC wins.
