SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Two relay teams finished All-Conference while a few top times in Centenary swimming were set after the first day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming Championships Wednesday night, February 13.

Both the Ladies and Gents sit third with 82 points after two events of the championships. Colorado College leads on the women's side, while Southwestern leads after day one of the championships.

The Ladies freshmen quartet of Lindsay Strohm, Kaylin Swoboda, Sarah Harrison, and Brianna Serret earned All-Conference honors on the 800 freestyle relay by finishing third with a time of 8:07.76. For the Gents in the 200 medley relay, senior Blake Smith teamed up with freshmen Miguel Vasquez, Tripp Montgomery, and Mitchel Lulich to finish third with a time of 1:34.59.

"Our Ladies and Gents are off to a great start. Every relay swam well beyond what they had done all season. Hopefully, the school record in the 50 backstroke from Miguel will be followed by a great 100 backstroke later in the meet," explained head coach Butch Jordan.

Vasquez broke the Gents 50 backstroke record with a time of 23.04 – more than a whole second faster than every other backstroke split at the championships. His split of 1:44.05 in the 800 freestyle relay is the ninth-fastest time in school history in the 200 freestyle.

The Gents 800 freestyle team of Lulich, Vasquez, Smith, and junior Eddie Dyess finished fourth with a time of 7:03.31.

Meanwhile for the Ladies, Serret recorded the fifth-fastest time in school history in the 50 backstroke, touching the wall in 28.39. The foursome of Serret, Swoboda, Strohm, and junior Jessi Jordan took fifth with a time of 1:51.99.

The Ladies and Gents return to the pool Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. as the first pre-lims of individual events kick off day 2 of the championships. Finals that will be contested beginning at 6 p.m. include the 200 freestyle relay, the 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, and the 50 freestyle.
