LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Six Centenary student-athletes, one representing each of the six spring sports, was named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Sportsmanship Team for spring 2017.
Representing the Maroon and White from the softball team is senior Mallory Ford.
"In her two seasons as a member of the Centenary softball team, Mallory exemplified the meaning of sportsmanship. She made every effort to establish respectful personal relationships with all of her teammates," said softball head coach Mark Suire. "She also treated opponents, officials, and the game itself with the respect that each deserved. These qualities are what you expect from a team leader."
Ford completed her two seasons with Ladies softball in the spring, batting .242 and finishing third on the team with five doubles. In a 5-4, come-from-behind win at Schreiner, Ford hit a pair of doubles to help Centenary wrap up the third seed in the SCAC Tournament. In a five-run fifth inning, Ford tied the game at four with a two-RBI double to right center. She scored the winning run later in the inning on a sacrifice fly.
Junior Ian Graham represents the SCAC Championship baseball team.
"Ian had a great year on the field and showed great sportsmanship off the field," said head baseball coach Mike Diaz. "I congratulate Ian on this much-deserved award."
An Honorable Mention All-Conference performer, Graham earned SCAC All-Tournament honors for the second-straight season after helping the Gents rally from an 8-2 deficit on Championship Sunday against Trinity. With the Gents down by four and the bases loaded, Graham cleared the bags with a double down the left field line. An RBI single by Graham and an error put Centenary up 9-8, but the Tigers rallied for the win. Centenary would take game two, 13-3, for the SCAC Tournament title, with Graham adding a hit and two runs scored.
Graham finished the season fourth on the team in both batting average (.352) and hits (57).
Seniors Graham Maxwell and Courtney Kale represent Gents and Ladies golf.
"I'm very happy that Graham got to see some consistent action in his final season with the Gents. He has been a solid contributor both on and off the course and we will miss his wit and work ethic," said head golf coach Emlyn Aubrey. "I can't say enough about Courtney's outlook on life. She has literally survived numerous health issues while here at Centenary and finally has her health back where she has been able to play her senior year. No matter what, this young lady always has a huge smile on her face! I couldn't be happier for her and love having her a part of our team."
Maxwell finished his Centenary career 27th at the SCAC Men's Championship, while Kale finished 23rd in the Women's Championship.
Finally, senior Laura Perilloux and sophomore Jonathan Harrel represent Ladies and Gents tennis. Perilloux wrapped up her Centenary career with a trio of wins the past two seasons, including a thrilling, come-from-behind win against Rachel Johnson of Louisiana College 4-6, 6-0, 10-7. Harrel picked up a win in 2017 by blanking Mike Davis of Louisiana College, 6-0, 6-0.
