Gents Finish Seventh At SCAC Championships

Garland, Texas – The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams completed the four days of competition at the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday with the Ladies finishing fourth and the Gents placing seventh at the Garland ISD Natatorium.

The Ladies, who also finished fourth last season, earned 363 points for the event while the Gents, who finished fourth last season, picked up 173 points. Trinity won both the men's (1,016 pts.) and women's (1,079 pts.) titles.

Freshman Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) and senior Brianna Serret (Alexandria, La.) highlighted the final day of competition for Centenary as they each earned all-conference honors and Serret was named the 2022 SCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Elite 19 award winner. Established prior to the 2018-19 academic year and meant to recognize the best of the best within each conference sponsored-sport as it relates to both academic and athletic achievement, the SCAC Elite 19 is awarded to the student-athlete who has completed the equivalent of at least 60 credit hours at his or her current institution and has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA. The student-athlete must also have earned All-SCAC First, Second or Third Team honors in his/her sport for that particular season.

Serret earned all-conference honors with her third-place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:10.00), just ahead of Vacula who finished fourth in a time of 2:12.17. Vacula finished third in the 1650 Yard Freestyle, swimming a time of 17:56.27 to earn all-conference honors. Her time at the 1,000 split (10:51.54) is the fourth-fastest 1,000 time in school history.

"I am so proud of both Bri (Brianna Serret) and Maddie", said Centenary head coach Brad Langford. "Bri is very deserving of being named the SCAC Elite 19 recipient and she swam another fantastic meet this week."

"I am very impressed by Maddie as she swam the 200 back about 30 minutes after finishing third in the 1650 which is a grueling race, what a performance!".

The Ladies' foursome of Serret, Vacula, senior Margot Frost (Prairieville, La.), and senior Madelyn Frederick (Slidell, La.) finished fourth in the championship final of the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, swimming a time of 3:43.75. Frost also finished fifth in the championship final of the 200 Yard Butterfly, swimming a time of 2:18.79. Senior Mitchell Lulich (New Orleans, La.) had the Gents' top individual on Saturday as he placed seventh in the championship final of the 200 Yard Breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:12.40.
