Swimming Teams Open Season With Home Win Over McMurry
The Centenary swimming teams opened their seasons on Friday evening with a victory over McMurry University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference dual meet inside the Centenary Fitness Center.
Shreveport - The Centenary swimming teams opened their seasons on Friday evening with a victory over McMurry University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference dual meet inside the Centenary Fitness Center.
Centenary defeated McMurry by a combined team score of 158-132, with the men claiming an 82-66 victory and the women winning 76-66.

Sophomore Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) picked up where she left off after a stellar rookie season and claimed three individual wins to highlight the Ladies' performance. Waddell won the 500-yard freestyle (5:49.82), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.32), and the 200-yard IM (2:21.55).
Sophomore Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.82) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.24)
Sophomore Cicely Jackson (Lafayette, La.) and sophomore Stacy Brown (Baytown, Texas) finished second and third respectively in the 200-yard butterfly as Jackson swam a runner-up time of 2:41.69 and Brown swam a time of 3:13.22. Jackson also finished fourth in both the 100 free (1:03.08) and 500 free (6:02.00).
Junior Adriana de la Fuente (Baton Rouge, La.), sophomore Kennadi St. Clair (Duncanville, Texas), sophomore Sydney Welch (Moss Bluff, La.), and Brown teamed to earn a runner-up finish in the 400-yard medley relay as they swam a time of 5:23.04 while McMurry won the relay in a time of 4:37.02.
St. Clair earned a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:30.23) and freshman Isabela Vasquez (Lafayette, La.) had an impressive collegiate debut as she finished runner-up in the 200 breast (3:02.86) and joined Brown, St. Clair, and freshman Ella Walton (Lafayette, La.) to finish second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:57.68). Freshman Bailey Allemeier (Altus, Okla.) earned a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:56.18), placed third in the 200 back (2:33.03), and finished fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:32.15). Walton also earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 back, swimming a time of 2:37.50 and finished fifth in the 100 free (1:03.18).
On the men's side, the foursome of senior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.), freshman Hunter Hedges (Murphy, Texas), freshman Adam Stelly (Opelousas, La.), and freshman Sake Stroderd (Sulphur, La.) won the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 3:47.96 and the Gents finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay as freshman Cade Campbell (Ruston, La.), senior Daniel Lewis (Alexandria, La.), freshman Kai North (Tyler, Texas), and freshman Parker Randolph (Shreveport, La.) swam a time of 1:39.78.
Freshman Noah Bannan (Mandeville, La.), junior Jameson Feeney (Shreveport, La.), freshman Jordan Jerrigan (Temple, Texas), and freshman Jonah Matlock (Duncanville, Texas) finished fifth in the 200 free relay (1:45.42).
The Gents finished 1-2-3 in a trio of events - the 100-yard freestyle, the 200-yard IM, and the 200-yard butterfly. Centenary also claimed the second, third, and fourth-place spots in the 200 breast and finished first, second, and fourth in the 500 free.
Barbee won the 200 fly in a time of 2:11.21, Randolph finished second (2:17.08), and Campbell was third (2:21.71). Barbee also earned a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:25.87), behind freshman Trey White (Ball, La.) who claimed his first-career win in his collegiate debut, swimming a time of 5:17.43. Randolph finished fourth in the 500 as he swam a time of 5:32.60.
Hedges, Stroderd, and sophomore Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) finished second through fourth in the 200 breast, swimming times of 2:23.18, 2:25.33, and 2:35.41. White also earned a third-place finish in the 200 back (2:14.31), Bannan finished fifth (2:20.75), and Lewis placed sixth (2:24.21).
Stelly won the 200 IM (2:08.22) and was runner-up in the 100 free (50.73). Stroderd was third in the 100 free (51.50), and Hedges finished fourth (53.21). White and Ayala finished second and third in the 200 IM, swimming times of 2:09.40 and 2:17.39.
