Gents Go 2-2 On Saturday In SIVA Crossover

Bryan, Texas - The Centenary Men's Volleyball club team went 2-2 at the SIVA Crossover on Saturday, winning against Oklahoma Baptist (2-1) and SMU (2-0) while falling to Oklahoma University (B) (0-2) and UT-San Antonio (B) (0-2).

Sami Borchalli (Lafayette, La.), Keegan Tunstall (Shreveport, La.), Riley Garza (San Antonio, Texas), and Tarif Islam (Shreveport, La.) all had standout performances.

Borchalli led the defense, while Tunstall and Riley Garza (San Antonio, Texas) provided an intense offensive presence. "We knew Riley would add a lot to the program when he committed to Centenary. He came in with USAV club-level experience and good fundamentals," said head coach Ashley McDonough-Turnipseed.

"Tarif Islam (Shreveport, La.) was new to volleyball his first year but has plenty of tennis experience. He's also come alive in his sophomore season," said McDonough. He moves quickly and has a ton of natural athleticism. It wasn't a matter of if but a matter of when. We are lucky he's committed so much time to become a setter - it's not an easy role to fill."

The Gents hit the court again on March 7 for their only home match this season, where they will honor four seniors - Borchalli, Payton Lii (Dallas, Texas), CJ McCulloch and Nolan Tomasek. Come out for an exciting 6:30 PM match-up against Louisiana Tech!

Admission is FREE to all Centenary home athletic contests.
