Ladies Finish Fifth In Austin College Invitational

Sherman, Texas – The Centenary swimming teams completed action on Saturday in the Austin College Invitational as the Ladies and Gents each finished fifth at the Hannah Natatorium.

The Gents earned 93 points while the Ladies finished with 269. University of the Ozarks was the winner on the women's side with 535.5 points, University of Texas of the Permian Basin was second with 485, McMurry University finished third (277.5), the host 'Roos fourth at 271 ahead of the Ladies.

On the men's side, UT-Permian Basin won with 628 points, Ozarks finished second at 394, McMurry third (313), and Austin College fourth with 273 points.

Sophomore Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) continued her impressive season for the Ladies as she claimed three individual wins for the third meet in a row and now has an impressive 14 this season and 21 in her superb career. She won the 200 back in a season-best time of 2:19.05, won the 1650 free in a season-best time of 18:38.81, and the 200 IM (2:27.67).

Junior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) earned three top-10 finishes to help lead the Gents. Barbee's best finish was fourth place in the 200 fly as he swam a season-best time of 2:10.49. He finished eighth in the 100 fly (58.20) and ninth in the 100 free (54.45) which was his fastest time this season in the event. Barbee now has five wins, five runner-up finishes, 11 top-five finishes, and 14 Top 10s this season.

Junior Aiden Peterkin (Zachary, La.) finished seventh in the 200 free in a season-best time of 2:01.34 and earned top-15 finishes in both the 100 free and 100 fly. Freshman Jameson Feeney (Shreveport, La.) finished fifth in the 100 breast, swimming a time of 1:14.10. He also placed 11th in both the 50 free (27.55) and 200 IM (2:27.09). His time in the 200 IM was his best of the season.

On the women's side, senior Christine Goodman (Alexandria, La.) had an impressive meet as she earned a runner-up finish in the 200 breast with a season-best time of 2:48.03 and finished fourth in the 100 breast with another season-best time of 1:18.84. Senior Bryn Jenkins (Houston, Texas) earned her best finish in the 200 back, swimming a season-best time of 2:30.70 to place fifth, finished seventh in the 100 back with another season-best time (1:09.73) and 10th in the 50 free (29.44).

Junior Anacelia Galeano Balam (Baton Rouge, La.) finished third in the 200 fly with a season-best time of 2:42.13 and fifth in the 100 fly (1:09.53) and also finished 14th in the 100 free with another season-best time (1:05.78). Senior Katie Malicoat (Wichita, Kan.) swam a season-best time of 1:18.72 to finish third in the 100 breast, senior Camryn Hebert (Youngsville, La.) earned a top-10 finish in the 100 fly, finishing ninth in a season-best time of 1:14.19, and also finished 11th in the 100 free (1:03.34) and 12th in the 50 free (29.55). Freshman Adriana de la Fuente (Baton Rouge, La.) finished 16th in the 50 free (33.83) and freshman Emma Allsopp (Belfast, Northern Ireland) finished 15th in the 100 free in a season-best time (1:13.60).

Centenary is home next Saturday, Jan. 21 against Austin College for its annual Senior Day meet set for 1 p.m.
