Swimming To Face Millsaps On Saturday

Flowood, Miss. - The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams are back on the road this weekend for a dual meet against the Millsaps College Majors on Saturday set for Noon at GRIT Training.

The Ladies and Gents are coming off of another impressive performance against the University of the Ozarks Eagles in a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference dual meets last weekend in Clarksville, Ark.

The men recorded a convincing 217-90 victory last weekend while the women also swam well but were edged 166-163. Centenary picked up consecutive victories to open the season over McMurry University on Oct. 11 and 12 at home.

Centenary defeated McMurry by a combined team score of 158-132 on Oct. 11, with the men claiming an 82-66 victory and the women winning 76-66. The next day, the Maroon and White won by a combined team score of 168-160, with the women claiming a 92-69 victory and the men falling short, 91-76.

Sophomore Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) continued her impressive start to the season as she recorded five individual wins over the weekend against Ozarks. Waddell, who was named the SCAC Women's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 15 after notching six wins in the Ladies' first two meets of the season, claimed wins against Ozarks in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.38), 200-yard IM (2:20.73), 400-yard IM (5:01.90), 200-yard freestyle (2:08.44), and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.75). She was also part of the Ladies' winning 400-yard medley relay team (4:35.74).

Freshman Trey White (Ball, La.) had an impressive weekend for the Gents against Ozarks Eagles as he claimed two wins, two runner-up finishes, and had two other top-five finishes. He won the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.79) and 500 freestyle (5:16.92) and was runner-up in both the 200 backstroke (2:17.63) and 400 IM (4:44.93).

Sophomore Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) is also off to a strong start to her season as she recorded a pair of wins and a pair of runner-up finishes last weekend after tallying one win on the opening weekend of the season against McMurry along with three runner-up finishes and a third-place finish. Last weekend against Ozarks, she won both the 100-yard freestyle (59.07) and 100-yard butterfly (1:04.21), and earned runner-up finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (26.69) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:35.12). Esser was also part of the Ladies' winning team in the 400-yard medley relay (4:35.74).

Senior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) was impressive last weekend as he picked up a win in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.94) and was runner-up in three events - the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.83), 100-yard butterfly (57.49), and the 1650-freestyle (19:16.83), while placing third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.64). Barbee was also part of the Gents' winning team in the 400-yard medley relay (3:51.37).

Freshman Bailey Allemeier (Altus, Okla.), sophomore Cicely Jackson (Lafayette, La.), freshman Hunter Hedges (Murphy, Texas), freshman Sake Stroderd (Sulphur, La.), freshman Noah Bannan (Mandeville, La.), freshman Adam Stelly (Opelousas, La.), and freshman Parker Randolph (Shreveport, La.) combined for seven wins and 12 runner-up finishes last weekend.
