Gents Fall 30-8 At LaGrange College On Sunday

LaGrange, Ga. - The Centenary lacrosse team could not keep pace with the LaGrange College Panthers on Sunday afternoon, as the Gents fell 30-8 in a non-conference contest at Callaway Stadium.

The Gents (0-4) scored three times in the first period, but the Panthers found the net seven times. LaGrange (3-3) then outscored the Maroon and White 11-2 in the second period to take an 18-5 lead into halftime. The Panthers edged the Gents 5-3 in the third period and finished with a 7-0 advantage in the final period.

Centenary, which fell 16-3 on the road at Huntingdon College on Friday, matched its season-high in goals which it scored in its home opener, a 12-8 loss to Cornell College on Feb. 11. Following a quick goal just 11 seconds into the game, the Gents scored the next two for a 2-1 lead just over three minutes into the action.

Sophomore A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) found the net for the fifth time this season at the 13:08 mark to tie the game and freshman MF Dominic Ogier (St. Louis, Mo.) then gave the Gents the lead with his first-career goal with 11:38 left in the quarter. Spivey struck again with 3:25 left in the period for the Gents' third goal of the quarter.

Junior LSM Jackson Ossman (Shreveport, La.) also scored his first-career goal with an unassisted score at the 6:41 mark of the second quarter. Sophomore GK Alex Nicks-Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) was left wide open on the Panthers' end of the field with 14 seconds left before the half and helped himself with a goal, the Gents' fifth of the half. Freshman A Liam Johns (Shreveport, La.) scored in the first minute of the second half, which was also his first-career goal.

Spivey completed the hat trick with a goal at the 10:45 mark of the quarter and now leads the Gents with seven this season. Senior A/MF Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) scored Centenary's final goal of the game with 5:13 left in the third and now has four this season.

Nicks-Davis and sophomore GK Jason Turner (Bossier City, La.) split time in goal for the Gents as Nicks-Davis made nine saves in 45 minutes and Turner played the fourth quarter and made two saves. The Panthers played three goalies as Joshua Hargrove led the way with 30 minutes in goal and made three saves.

LaGrange finished with a 67-28 advantage in shots and 42-7 edge in ground balls. The Panthers also won 36-42 face offs and were led in scoring by Ryan Comeau's eight goals. Seven Panthers recorded multi-goal performances.

Johns took a team-high 10 shots for the Gents followed by Spivey's six. Temple took five and Ogier took three. Freshman MF Seven Davillier (Shreveport, La.) had a team-high three ground balls.

The Gents now return home for three-straight games at the friendly confines of Mayo Field, beginning with a contest versus Hanover College on Wednesday, March 1 at 7 p.m. Centenary then faces Spalding University on Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m. for Senior Night, and finally Earlham College at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 for its Alumni Spotlight. Centenary was picked to finish fifth this season in the HCLC.
