Shreveport- The Centenary lacrosse team fell 18-9 to the Hanover College Panthers on Wednesday night at Mayo Field.

The Gents (0-5) were playing at home for just the second time this season while the Panthers (2-2) improved to 2-1 away from home. Centenary's nine goals are a season high after previously scoring eight twice.

Hanover got off to a 6-1 start after one quarter and outscored Centenary 4-3 in the second period to take a 10-4 halftime lead. The Panthers finished with a 5-2 edge in the third quarter and then each team scored three times in the final period.

Senior John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) recorded a hat trick to give him eight goals this season. Sophomore A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) scored the Gents' first goal of the game six minutes into the game and now has eight to match Waniewski for the team lead.

Junior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) and freshman A Liam Johns (Shreveport, La.) each scored two goals and Johns now has three in the last two games after scoring his first-career goal on Sunday at LaGrange. Senior A/MF Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) scored his fifth goal of the season midway through the second period and added an assist on Comi's second goal.

Comi, who scored both of his goals 15 seconds apart from one another early in the fourth quarter, also had two assists for one of the best games of his career. Spivey also had an assist on Waniewski's second goal.

Sophomore GK Alex Nicks-Davis (Nashville, Tenn.) started in goal for the Gents and made one save while allowing three goals. Sophomore GK Jason Turner (Bossier City, La.) came on in relief of Nicks-Davis and played the remaining 55 minutes and made 12 saves.

Hanover's GK Lance Guttormson played the entire 60 minutes and made 15 saves. Colin O'Brien led the Panthers with six goals, Owen Parker had four, and Dirk Meinhart added three with four assists. Alex Kleinhelter scored twice and had one assist.

Hanover took 48 shots to 36 for the Gents and finished with 24 ground balls while the Gents had 23. Centenary won 19-31 face off's and went 20-26 on clears while Hanover was 11-16. The Gents turned the ball over 24 times while the Panthers gave it away 23 times.

The Gents return to action on Thursday, March 16 when they face Spalding University at 7 p.m. for Senior Night, and finally Earlham College at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 for its Alumni Spotlight.
