Golf Programs Unveil New On-Campus Practice Area

Shreveport – The Centenary men's and women's golf programs are excited to announce the addition of a new on-campus putting green and short game practice area.

The new practice area is located behind Mayo Field, home to Centenary's lacrosse and soccer teams and adjacent to the Centenary Softball Complex. A link to a photo gallery is available here: https://centenaryla.zenfolio.com/puttinggreen

"Having this short game area right here on campus complements our indoor practice center perfectly," said Centenary head coach Emlyn Aubrey. "Long days in the classroom or iffy weather conditions can no longer limit our practice sessions and that is invaluable in preparing for competition."

The new area includes a putting green as well as an area to chip from onto the green with a fence behind it. Aubrey's collegiate teammate at LSU, PGA Champion David Toms, donated the artificial turf.

I would like to give a shout out to David Toms for donating the artificial turf to make this project possible," said Aubrey. "With this new facility, golf team members can now work on all aspects of their games in just a short walk from their dorm rooms!"

Aubrey, a two-time All-American at LSU from 1983-86, is entering his 13th season as head coach of the Ladies and Gents programs. Aubrey was also a three-time All-SEC selection, the 1984 SEC Individual Champion in helping lead the Tigers to the team title, and finished third at the NCAA National championships in 1986. He and Toms played together in Baton Rouge for the 1986 season.

The 2019-20 season, cut short due to COVID-19 circumstances, was another success for the Maroon and White as nine total Ladies and Gents were named to the 2020 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, and the men's team claimed the team title at the Louisiana College Fall Invitational in September, 2019.

Senior Reed Balcerowicz was named to the 2020 All-Louisiana College Men's Golf Team by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA), and fellow senior Erin Rostro was named a WGCA All-American Scholar, by the Women's Golf Coaches Association for the second time in her career.

Gents senior Taylor Wells was named a finalist for the 2020 SCAC Man of the Year award, which recognizes the conference's senior male student-athlete who has best distinguished himself throughout his collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence and service and leadership.

Centenary is tentatively set to begin competition in February but the schedules for both the Ladies and Gents are in the process of being finalized. Please check www.GoCentenary.com and Centenary athletics' social media channels for updates soon.
