Ladies Late Goal Sink Scots in Final Preseason Tune-Up

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies fell behind by a goal in the second half, but two late scores gave Centenary a 3-2 win over Lyon (0-2) Sunday afternoon (August 26) at Mayo Field.

The Scots pulled ahead 2-1 after two second half goals by Joyce Barbosa, but the Ladies found the back of the net twice in a six-minute span to rally for the win. In the 79th minute, freshman Kat Martinez sent a corner near post that found classmate Riley Seeton. Seeton put the ball in the net to level the match.

In the 85th minute, sophomore Pamela Fonseca served the ball in the box from near midfield. Junior Betzabet Bravo collected the ball and beat the goalie for what proved to be the game-winning tally.

Centenary opened the scoring in the 11th minute when junior Kyra Montes served the ball into the box. Kat Martinez finished for her second goal of the preseason.

Barbosa put the Scots ahead with scores in the 50th and 74th minutes. Judith Flores assisted on the first tally for Lyon.

Bravo led Centenary with a pair of shots on goal.

Barbosa led the Scots with a game best four shots, three of which were on target.

Sophomore Maggie Pitcher and freshman Avery Sanderson each played a half in goal for Centenary, grabbing three saves. Shelby Straight played all 90 minutes for the visitors, grabbing five saves on eight shots faced.

The game was the second and final exhibition of the preseason for the Ladies, while it was Lyon's second contest of the 2018 season.

The Ladies open up the regular season with a pair of home games, beginning with Belhaven on Saturday, September 1. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
