Track & Field Teams Set For 2022 SCAC Championships This Weekend

San Antonio, Texas – The Centenary men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships this weekend beginning on Saturday at Trinity University Track & Field Stadium.

The two-day event, hosted by SCAC member Trinity University, features the Ladies and Gents along with the host Tigers, Colorado College, the University of Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas, and Texas Lutheran. Live results are available at the link below:

The championship begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday with men's and women's track events followed by field events at 10 and 11:30 a.m. The afternoon session begins at 4 p.m. with track events. Day two of the championship begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday with track events followed by field events beginning at 9 a.m. Field events continue beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the afternoon session begins at Noon. The final event is scheduled for 2 p.m. followed by the Awards Ceremony at approximately 2:20 p.m.

Sophomore Devante' Jack (Jena, La.) will be in the spotlight this weekend after he was named the SCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday following his win in the men's 800 meters in a season-best time of 1:56.85 last Friday at the Little Rock Twilight. Jack bested several athletes from Division I school and now has three top-10 finishes in the 800 this season in addition to his win, including a runner-up finish.

Junior Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) had the Ladies' top finish of the meet last Friday as she placed 10th in the women's 100 meters with a time of 13.04. The Ladies recorded three top-15 finishes in a solid showing in preparation for the conference test this weekend. Senior Veronica Dougherty (McAllen, Texas) and freshman Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) look to continue their impressive seasons this weekend and on the men's side, sophomore Coby Harris (Lafayette, La.), freshman Deandre Gonzales (San Antonio, Texas), and senior Payton Lii (Dallas, Texas) look to do the same.

Centenary has recorded 10 top-15 individual finishes as well as seven top-five finishes men and women combined this season. Centenary made its program debut in the SCAC Championship last season in Seguin, Texas as the Ladies finished fifth and earned nine points while the Gents placed ninth. Trinity won both the men's and women's titles and Colorado College finished as runner-up on both sides.
