After a record setting game against Johnson & Wales, a Ladies Soccer 2-1 win in overtime Sunday, junior Kyra Montes received Centenary Athlete of the Week honors for the third time this year. In addition, Gents freshman Swimmer, Miguel Vasquez, also received Centenary Athlete of the Week honors after three individual wins and one victory as part of a relay team.

With Ladies Soccer down one in a key Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game in Denver, Montes scored the equalizer in the 78th minute and scored the game winner with less than a minute left in the first overtime. With the two goals in the contest, Montes now has 14 goals for the season and 17 for her career to break the Ladies Soccer Division III era record in both categories. It was also the eighth career game-winning goal to break that record.

Vasquez had a great start to his Gents Swimming career this past weekend in a pair of meets against Colorado College, winning every individual event he swam. On Friday, he out-touched his opponent by 0.08 seconds in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.83. As the anchor in the 400 free relay, he rallied the team and overtook his opponent in the final 50 to lead Centenary to a win. On Saturday, he won the 200 IM (2:01.05) and 100 backstroke (54.00) by more than three seconds.

The Ladies Soccer team, which has clinched at least the fourth seed in the SCAC Tournament, finishes the regular season Tuesday, October 23, when it travels to Austin College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Gents Swimming team returns to the pool November 2-3 for the Hendrix Relays and Classic.
