Gents' streak snapped; Fall in OT at Dallas

IRVING, Texas - The Centenary men's basketball team had its seven-game win streak snapped as the Gents (12-9, 8-3 SCAC) fell 87-84 in overtime at the University of Dallas on Friday evening.

Travion Kirkendoll led the Maroon and White with 22 points in the effort as Isaiah Whitaker added 11 points. The effort marks the 14th double-digit game for Kirkendoll this season and his fourth straight while Whitaker has scored in double figures three times this season.

James Sapp recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds. The four-time SCAC Player of the Week has scored double figures in 18 contests this season, including six straight.

Centenary led by as many as nine points with 2:29 left to play in the contest, but witnessed a 13-4 Crusaders' run to close regulation capped by a Lorenzo Gonzalez 3-pointer with 4 ticks remaining to send the contest into the extra session.

After the two teams exchanged buckets in OT, the Gents gained an 82-81 advantage with 2:34 left, but again the Blue and White rallied back behind back-to-back buckets from Aaron Wyatt -giving UD an 85-82 lead.

Sapp answered by the Maroon and White with layup with under a minute to play to cut the lead back to one point, but Michael Sarratt hit a pair of free throws to extended the advantage to three points and ice the contest.

Centenary finished the night shooting 38.5 percent from the field, including a season-high 46.7 clip from behind the arc. UD finished the night 44 percent from the floor and 43.8 from behind the 3-point line - the highest percentage surrendered by the Gents since earlier this season against Rust College (47.6).

Dallas held a 50-39 advantage on the glass in the contest marking the most rebounds allowed by the Maroon and White since the season opener against Lewis and Clark (64).

Wyatt led the Crusaders with 16 points. Sarratt and Mark Promberger each added 14 points while Kym Malone supplied 10 points in the effort. Promberger and Wyatt each tied for the team lead in rebounds with 11.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 7 as it travels to Austin College. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
