Swimming Teams Set For Annual Intrasquad/Alumni Meet

Shreveport – The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams will hold their annual Intrasquad/Alumni Meet on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. inside the Centenary Fitness Center.

The Ladies and Gents were most recently in action last Saturday as they finished with 13 individual victories in a non-conference dual meet against the Millsaps College Majors in Flowood, Miss. Centenary also tallied 40 top-five finishes and seven runner-ups in the meet.

Centenary recorded an impressive 57 top-five finishes in a pair of meets against McMurry University in Abilene, Texas on Oct. 13-14 after tallying 33 in its two season-opening meets Oct. 6-7.

Junior Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) recorded a trio of individual wins last Saturday to highlight an impressive performance by the Ladies against Millsaps as she won the 200 back (2:24.82), 500 free (5:44.80), and 1000 free (11:39.30) and was also a member of the Ladies' team that finished second in the 200-yard medley relay (2:01.38).

Freshman Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) also had a solid meet as she also picked up three individual wins, claiming victory in the 100 breast (1:09.76), 200 breast (2:32.65), and 200 IM (2:19.96). Freshman Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) recorded a pair of wins, swimming a time of 1:06.60 to win the 100 back and also won the 100 fly in a time of 1:03.69.

Senior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) won the 200 fly (2:14.80) and 1000 free (11:20.22) and placed third in the 100 free (54.49). Freshman Nick Gordon (Aurora, Colo.) and freshman Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) each continued their impressive starts to their rookie seasons, combining for three wins and three-runner-up finishes. Gordon won the 100 free (52.52) and 100 fly (54.37) and placed second in the 50 free (22.82). Ayala won the 200 breast (2:32.15) and finished second in both the 100 breast (1:10.30) and 200 IM (2:16.01).

Centenary has a whopping 130 top-five finishes this season and have combined for The Ladies and Gents combined for 15 runner-up finishes and 27 individual wins.

Saturday's meet is the last action for the Maroon and White until the calendar turns over to 2024. The Ladies and Gents will have a pair of home regular-season meets in January - Wednesday, Jan. 10 versus Millsaps (4 p.m.) and then on Senior Day against Austin College (Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.). Centenary will also compete in the Austin College Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 13 in Sherman, Texas at 1 p.m.
