Swim Teams Record Victory Over Millsaps

Shreveport - The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams earned a victory over the Millsaps College Majors by a combined team score of 231-207 in a dual meet on Wednesday inside the Centenary Fitness Center.

The Ladies recorded an impressive 136-85 win while the Gents came up short, 122-95. Centenary was back in action for the first time in two months as the Maroon and White prepare for a busy two months that features four meets, highlighted by the annual Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships set for Feb. 14-17 in Garland, Texas.

Junior Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) and freshman Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) highlighted the effort on the women's side with three individual wins apiece, and freshman Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) and senior Anacelia Galeano-Balam (Baton Rouge, La.) each picked up a pair of wins.

Freshman Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas), senior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.), and freshman Nick Gordon (Aurora, Colo.) paced the men's side with two wins each. Ayala won both the 50 back (28.51) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.87), Barbee's wins came in the 1000 free (11:20.22) and 500 free (5:39.45), and Gordon claimed individual wins in the 50 free (23.33) and 100 free (53.92) and earned a runner-up finish in the 200 IM (2:12.97).

Esser continued a sensational start to her rookie season with wins in the 50 back (30.51), 50 fly (28.40), 50 free (26.45), Galeano-Balam won the 100 fly (1:09.36) and placed third in both the 200 free (2:26.04) and 50 fly (30.77), Waddell won both the 100 breast (1:12.80) and 200 IM (2:27.42), and earned a runner-up finish in the 50 breast (33.60). Vacula won the 200 free (2:11.81), 500 free (5:40.66), and 100 back (1:09.14).

The Ladies' team of Esser, Galeano-Balam, Vacula, and Waddell won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:02.84 while the Gents' foursome of Ayala, freshman Gunnar Durham (Lufkin, Texas) Gordon, and senior Aiden Peterkin (Zachary, La.) finished second with a time of 1:49.45. The Ladies also claimed a win in the 400 free relay as Brown, de la Fuente, St. Clair, and Welch swam a time of 4:42.89.

Ayala finished third in the 200 IM (2:13.00) Barbee also earned a runner-up finish in the 100 fly (57.73), and Durham earned a runner-up finish in the 50 fly (27.97), finished third in the 100 free (1:01.33) and also placed third in the 100 fly (1:02.19). Sophomore Jameson Feeney (Shreveport, La.) finished second in the 50 breast (33.42) and third in both the 100 breast (1:13.87) and 200 free (2:15.00). Peterkin finished second in the 200 free (2:08.00) and fifth in the 100 fly (1:11.06) as well as fifth in the 200 IM (2:26.72).

Freshman Stacy Brown (Baytown, Texas) finished third in the 200 IM (2:54.75) and fourth in both the 200 free (2:36.37) and 50 breast (42.50), freshman Sydney Welch (Moss Bluff, La.) finished third in the 100 back (1:28.01) and fifth in both the 50 back (39.97) and 100 free (1:17.80).

Freshman Kennadi St. Clair (Duncanville, Texas) earned a trio of third-place finishes in the 100 free (1:07.92), 50 breast (38.95), and 50 free (30.60). Sophomore Adriana de la Fuente (Baton Rouge, La.) placed third in the 100 breast (1:43.13) and fourth in both the 100 free (1:16.46) and 50 back (39.69).

Centenary will compete in the Austin College Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 13 in Sherman, Texas at 1 p.m. and then returns home on Saturday, Jan. 20 against the 'Roos again for its annual Senior Day Meet set for 1 p.m.
