Track And Field Teams To Compete In Dan Veach Invitational On Saturday

Magnolia, Ark. – The Centenary men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the Dan Veach Invitational hosted by Southern Arkansas University on Saturday at the Mulerider Track Complex.

The first event begins at 9 a.m. with field events and running events begin at Noon. A complete schedule of events can be found in the meet info link above.

Centenary turned in an impressive performance last weekend at the Jim Mize Invitational hosted by Louisiana Tech University in Ruston as the Maroon and White recorded six top-five individual finishes.

Freshman Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) turned in the Ladies' top individual performance of the meet with a second-place finish in the 800 Meters (2:49.30). Senior Veronica Dougherty (McAllen, Texas) was right behind Vacula in third place with a time of 3:03.04.

Junior Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) finished fifth in the 400 Meters (1:09.37) and a pair of freshmen - McKenzie Williams (Stonewall, La.) and Caroline Simpson (Baton Rouge, La.) placed fifth and sixth respectively in the javelin as Williams' throw measured 18.20m and Simpson's was 16.95m. Vacula placed seventh in the 1500 Meters and Dougherty finished ninth (6:25.95).

On the men's side, sophomore Coby Harris (Lafayette, La.) had the best finish of the meet for the Gents as he placed fourth in the 100 Meters with a time of 11.85. Freshman Gabriel Aragon (Forney, Texas) tied for fifth with a time of 11.97. In the 200 Meters, Harris place sixth (24.28) and Aragon tied for seventh (24.53). Sophomore Devante' Jack (Jena, La.) finished seventh in the 800 Meters (2:03.94).

Centenary opened the season in the Hendrix Alumni Open in Conway, Ark. on March 12 and Aragon had Centenary's top finish by placing seventh in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.05 while senior Payton Lii (Dallas, Texas) finished 12th (12.39).

On the Ladies' side, Vacula placed 22nd in the women's 800-meter dash with a time of 2:55.04 and Dougherty finished 24th (2:56.50). Vacula finished 24th in the women's 1500-meter dash with a time of 5:39.19 and Dougherty finished 34th (6:08.60).
