Track & Field Teams Set For 2023 SCAC Championships This Weekend

Georgetown, Texas – The Centenary men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships this weekend beginning on Saturday at the Southwestern University Track & Field Facility.

The two-day event, hosted by SCAC member Southwestern University, features the Ladies and Gents along with the host Pirates, Colorado College, the University of Dallas, Schreiner University, The University of St. Thomas, and Texas Lutheran University.

Live results and live video links will be available in the Championship central.

The meet begins on Saturday at 8 a.m. with track events followed by field events starting at 10 a.m. The afternoon session begins at 1 p.m. and track events follow starting at 4 p.m. Sunday's action begins at 8 a.m. with track events followed by field events at 9 a.m. The afternoon session begins at Noon with the awards ceremony set for 2:20 p.m.

Centenary recorded six individual top-10 finishes and a pair of top-five relay finishes at the Pelican Relays on April 8 in Baton Rouge in its most recent action.

The Gents recorded a pair of impressive top-five finishes as senior Kevin Brown (New Orleans, La.) finished second in the javelin (46.88m) and junior Xavier Venious (Bossier City, La.) finished third in the 400 meter hurdles with a new personal-record time of 56.78. Freshman Eli Melton (Carencro, La.) finished 10th in the 1500-meter run in a new personal-best time of 4:38.92.

On the Ladies' side, freshman Lauren Castillo (Keller, Texas) finished seventh in the 1500 meter run in a time of 6:56.32, and junior Maddie Schonberg (Harbor City, Calif.) and sophomore Aubrey Salazar (San Antonio, Texas) finished ninth and 10th respectively in the shot put with distances of 8.20m and 7.39m.

Freshman Olivia Sepulvado (Zwolle, La.) finished 13th in the 400 meters with a personal-record time of 1:17.43. Schonberg and Salazar also competed in the discus as Schonberg placed 14th with a personal-record distance of 28.66 meters and Salazar was 18th (21.43m).

Four Gents competed in the 100 meters, and junior Coby Harris (Lafayette, La.) had the top finish as he ran a new personal-record time of 11.48 for 25th place. freshman Joshua Ware (Shreveport, La.) finished 27th with a new personal-record time of 11.52. Freshman Lydell Hunter (New Orleans. La.) finished 28th (11.53), and freshman Randy Levert (New Orleans, La.) ran a personal-best time of 11.62 to finish in 30th place.

Hunter finished 21st in the 200 meters (23.58), Melton was 23rd in the 800 meters with a PR time of 2:14.60 and Brown threw a new personal-record 34.32 meters in the discus to finish 12th. The Gents' team of Harris, Hunter, Levert, Ware, Venious, and junior Michael Smith (Baton Rouge, La.) finished fourth in the 4 x 400-meter relay (3:51.92) and fifth in the 4 x 100 (44.02).
