Track & Field Teams Set For 2024 SCAC Championships This Weekend

San Antonio, Texas – The Centenary men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships this weekend beginning on Saturday at Trinity University Track & Field Stadium.

The two-day event, hosted by SCAC member Trinity University, features the Ladies and Gents along with the host Tigers, Colorado College, the University of Dallas, Schreiner University, Southwestern University, the University of St. Thomas, and Texas Lutheran University.

The meet begins on Saturday at 8 a.m. with track events followed by field events at 10 a.m. and Saturday's afternoon session is set to begin at 4 p.m. with track events. Sunday's action also begins at 8 a.m. with track events then field events at 9 a.m. The afternoon session begins at Noon with track events and the awards ceremony at the conclusion of the meet is scheduled for 2:20 p.m.

In last season's championships, the Gents finished in sixth place and the Ladies placed seventh. The Gents earned 13 total points while the Ladies tallied one. Trinity University claimed both the men's (265.5 points) and women's title (268 points). Texas Lutheran University was the runner-up on the men's side with 240 points and Colorado College placed second on the women's side with 209 points.

Centenary returns to action for the first time since competing in the Pelican Relays hosted by Southern University in Baton Rouge on April 7. The Maroon and White have competed in four meets this season.

Senior Xavier Venious (Bossier City, La.) recorded Centenary's top finish of the meet as he placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best 56.38

Freshman Christian Cormier (Lafayette, La.) finished 18th in the men's 100-meter dash (11.56) and 30th in the 200 meters (23.43) which is a new personal-record time. Senior Coby Harris (Lafayette, La.) finished 24th in the 100 meters (11.82) and 33rd in the 200 meters (24.01).

Freshman Herman Pride (Baton Rouge, La.) earned a 19th-place finish in the 400 meters with a personal-record time of 58.91 and finished 31st in the 200 meters (23.61). Pride also finished 20th in the long jump (5.46m). Freshman Bryan Washington (Wylie, Texas) finished 16th in the 400 meters (53.67) and earned a 27th-place finish in the 200 meters (23.14). The men's foursome of Cormier, Harris, Venious, and Washington ran a season-best time of 43.21 in the 4 x 100-meter relay to finish fifth.

Freshman Mackenzie Haley (Orange, Texas) earned a top-10 finish in the high jump as she placed ninth (1.37m). Sophomore Julianna Malloy (Dallas, Texas) finished 26th in the 100-meter dash (14.31) and 34th in the 200 meters (30.57).

Junior Aubrey Salazar (San Antonio, Texas)  finished 12th in the discus with a personal-record of 26.94m and 20th in the shot put (8.44m) and senior Maddie Schonberg (Harbor City, Calif.) finished 14th in the discus (24.79m) and 15th in the shot put (9.29m) while senior Nyla Pierce (Ruston, La.) finished 17th in the discus (18.36m).
