Track & Field Set For Louisiana Classics

Lafayette, La. - The Centenary men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the Louisiana Classics hosted by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Home Bank Soccer & Track Complex.

Centenary opened its season on March 2 with several impressive individual performances at the Mississippi College Spring Cleaning Classic in Clinton, Miss.

The Ladies and Gents will be a part of a heavy dose of Louisiana flavor on Saturday as they will be joined by Dillard, McNeese, Nicholls, Northwestern State, Southeastern, Southern, Tulane, ULM, Xavier, and the host Ragin' Cajuns.

Freshman Milton Schexnayder (Franklin, La.) led the way on the men's side for the Gents as he recorded a pair of top-10 finishes in the discus (38.9m) – seventh place, and was ninth in the shot put (12.77m).

Freshman Bryan Washington (Wylie, Texas) ran the sixth-fastest time this season in the conference in the 200 Meters (22.89) on Saturday to finish in 31st place in the Mississippi College Spring Cleaning Classic - the Gents' season-opening meet in Clinton, Miss.

Senior Derek Smith (Bossier City, La.) recorded the second-best shot put in the conference so far this season (13.71m) in the Mississippi College Spring Cleaning Classic on Saturday - the Gents' season-opening meet in Clinton, Miss. He also recorded the 12th-best discus throw in the conference this season (29.44m).

Freshman Christian Cormier (Lafayette, La.) ran a time of 11:28 in the 100 meter-dash, which is tied for the ninth-fastest so far this season by a SCAC runner as he finished 24th. Freshman Herman Pride (Baton Rouge, La.) ran a time of 11:61 which is the 14th-fastest time and earned him a 38th-place finish.

Senior Xavier Venious (Bossier City, La.) ran a time of 23.28 in the 200 Meters, the 13th-fastest time so far in the conference, sophomore Lydell Hunter (New Orleans. La.) ran the 20th-fastest time (24.16), and Cormier's time of 24.54 ranks 24th.

Venious ran a time of 50.67 in the 400 Meters, the fifth-fastest time so far in the conference, Washington's time of 54.57 checks in at 13th, Hunter's time of 58.24 is 17th, Cormier ran the 19th-fastest time (1:01.07), Pride 20th (1:01.67), and sophomore Randy Levert (New Orleans, La.) ran the 21st-fastest time in the league (1:03.30).

Senior Maddie Schonberg (Harbor City, Calif.) had the Ladies' two best finishes as she placed 15th in the shot put (9.46m) and 17th in the discus throw (25.14m). Freshman Mackenzie Haley (Orange, Texas) finished 41st place in the 200 Meters (30.20) and senior Nyla Pierce (Ruston, La.) finished 22nd in the discus at 18:08m.
