Montgomery, Ala. - The Centenary baseball team dropped an 8-5 decision to the Huntingdon College Hawks on Sunday afternoon at Neal Posey Field but still won two of three in the weekend series.

The Gents (6-2) swept a pair of games from the Hawks (3-4) by scores of 10-6 and 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Centenary had its season-high four-game winning streak snapped and had beaten the Hawks in three straight tries after the two wins on Saturday and a win over them last Sunday in the Belhaven University Tournament in Jackson, Miss.

Centenary jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, but the Hawks responded with three in the third and a run in the fourth to tie the game. The Gents jumped ahead again with a single run in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead but the Hawks then scored the last four run of the game to salvage one game of the series.

The Gents had 10 hits in the game, marking the sixth time this season in eight total games that the Maroon and White have collected double-digit hits in a game.

Freshman Jacob Colby (Kingwood, Texas) made his first career start on Sunday and did not allow a run or hit in 1.1 innings of work. He walked two and struck out one. Senior Connor Cudd (Lake Charles, La.) relieved him and allowed four runs, all earned, in 2.2 IP with no walks and two K's.

Sophomore Parker Primeaux (Lake Charles, La.) was the Gents' third pitcher of the game and took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season. He allowed four earned runs and seven hits in three innings of work with no walks and one strikeout. Senior Luke Royle (Dodge City, Kan.) pitched the final inning and allowed one hit and struck out a batter.

Patrick Sawyer, the Hawk's second pitcher of the game, picked up the win to even his record at 1-1 as he allowed just one earned run on five hits in 5.1 innings. He walked one and did not record a strikeout.

Senior first baseman Preston Ludwick (Pflugerville, Texas) went 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and had a superb weekend at the plate as he was 6-11 (.545) with three RBI, four runs scored, two doubles, and two walks. Senior second baseman Tyler Erickson (Houston, Texas) went 203 with two RBI and senior DH Tyler Welch (Alexandria, La.) went 2-5.

Catcher Andrew Knight, second baseman Hall Billings, and first baseman Nick Swisher each had two hits and RF Colin Whibbs had a go-ahead three run homer in the third. Third baseman Dawson Kuba added two RBI.

The Gents return home for their next five games as they will welcome the University of Dubuque Spartans to Shehee Stadium for a three-game non-conference series beginning on Thursday, March 4 at 6 p.m. Game two will be held on Friday the 5th at 5 p.m. and will wrap up on Saturday, March 6 at Noon. Centenary then faces LeTourneau in a DH on Friday, March 12 with games set for 3 and 6 p.m.
