Kerrville, Texas - The Centenary baseball team blanked the Schreiner University Mountaineers by a score of 7-0 on Thursday afternoon in the opener of a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series at Bob Henry Field.

The Diamond Gents (10-9, 5-1 SCAC) extended their winning streak to four games and have won five of six. The Mountaineers fell to 7-17 and 2-4 in league play. The series concludes on Friday with a doubleheader at Noon and 3 p.m. Centenary, which swept Austin College last weekend at home by outscoring the 'Roos 24-9, is now 6-5 on the road this season and Schreiner dropped to 3-7 at home.

Sophomore LHP Cody Myers (Friendswood, Texas) continued his superb season by tossing his first-career complete game as he silenced the Schreiner lineup on just four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts to improve to 6-1 on the season. Myers, the current SCAC Pitcher of the Week, lowered his ERA to 0.82.

Centenary banged out 13 hits as the Maroon and White have posted at least 10 hits in a game in 15 of 19 games this season. The Diamond Gents walked three times, struck out four times, left 10 on base, and committed one error. Schreiner walked once, struck out seven times, left three on base, and made three errors.

The Diamond Gents took a 3-0 lead after an inning and added single runs in the third and fourth to lead 5-0 midway through the game. Centenary tacked on two more runs with one in the sixth and one more in the eighth to record its second shutout of the season.

Senior SS Jobee Boone (Opelousas, La.) led way on offense with a season-high four hits as he finished 4-5 with two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Sophomore 3B Clay Menard (Berwick, La.) was 3-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base as he tied his career-high for hits in a single game. Freshman 1B Alex Miller (Cypress, Texas) finished 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and sophomore CF Collin Pitts (Lufkin, Texas) went 2-4 with a walk. Senior RF Austyn Benoit (Welsh, La.) went 1-4 with two RBI and a run scored and senior C Jake Gonce (Katy, Texas) finished 1-5.

Myers struck out three batters in the first inning, one in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the eighth. The Centenary defense turned three double plays including one that ended the game. Schreiner got a single in the first, one in the third, one in the sixth, and one final one in the ninth. Senior CF Aidan Warren went 2-3 with a walk, senior C Gerardo Cardoza finished 1-4, and 2B Noah Saucedo was 1-2.

Junior RHP Fito Mendez started and took the loss to fall to 3-3 as he went five innings and allowed five runs, four earned, and eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts while hitting one batter. Max Sauceda relieved Mendez and pitched the final four innings as he allowed two runs, one earned, and five hits with no BB and two K's and two HBP.

Benoit started the scoring with an RBI double in the top of the first, Miller scored on an error, and Boone brought Benoit home with an RBI single. Freshman DH Walker Wicklund (Shreveport, La.) had a sacrifice fly in the third to score Boone, a two-out RBI single by Boone in the fourth brought Menard in, Miller scored on an error in the sixth, and Miller's two-out RBI single in he eighth capped the scoring.
