Rookie Hannah Waddell's Three Wins Highlights Friday Meet At McMurry

Abilene, Texas - The Centenary swimming teams combined for seven individual wins on Friday evening in a solid performance against the McMurry University War Hawks in a dual meet inside Phillips Family Center.

McMurry defeated Centenary 165-117 as the Ladies lost a close battle, 74-70, while the Gents fell 91-47. The teams will square off again on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Freshman Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) had a stellar meet as she claimed three individual wins and freshman Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) and freshman Nick Gordon (Aurora, Colo.) each picked up a win and one runner-up finish. Esser and Gordon were named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Swimmers of the Week on Tuesday.

Waddell earned her first-career wins after a solid debut last weekend with five top-5 finishes. On Friday, she won the 200 IM (2:21.00), 500 free (5:55.60), and 200 breaststroke (2:33.85).

Freshman Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) earned a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:34.43) and finished third in the 200 fly (2:23.64), senior Anacelia Galeano-Balam (Baton Rouge, La.) won the 200 fly (2:37.67) and finished fifth in the 500 free (6:28.79), and senior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) won the 200 fly (2:14.20) and finished third in the 500 free (5:34.72). Esser won the 100 free (58.24) and finished second in the 200 back (2:23.88) and Gordon claimed a win in the 100 free (51.64) and finished second in the 200 IM (2:14,32).

Senior Aiden Peterkin (Zachary, La.) finished fourth in both the 500 free (5:56.63) and 100 free (57.88) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:34.00). Sophomore Jameson Feeney (Shreveport, La.) placed fourth in the 200 breast (2:41.48) and finished fifth in the 200 IM (2:29.16). Freshman Gunnar Durham (Lufkin, Texas) made his career debut and finished third in the 200 back (2:56.08) and fifth in the 100 free (1:01.77).

Freshman Cicely Jackson (Lafayette, La.) placed third in the 200 fly (2:48.88) and fourth in the 500 free (6:04.32), freshman Allie Matherne (Cut Off, La.) was fourth in the 100 free (1:04.32) and fifth in the 200 breast (2:57.11), freshman Sydney Welch (Moss Bluff, La.) placed fifth in the 200 back (3:15.01), and freshman Kennadi St. Clair (Duncanville, Texas) finished fifth in the 100 free (1:06.23). Freshman Stacy Brown (Baytown, Texas) finished sixth in the 200 breast (3:24.90) and sophomore Adriana de la Fuente (Baton Rouge, La.) finished sixth in the 200 back (3:26.08).

The Ladies' team of Esser, Galeano-Balam, Jackson, and Matherne finished second in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:57.68 and the quartet of Brown, de la Fuente, St. Clair, and Welch swam a time of 5:36.27 to finish second in the 400 medley relay. Ayala, Barbee, Feeney, and Gordon placed second in the 400 medley relay (4:03.81).
