Rookies Esser and Waddell Lead Ladies On Saturday

Abilene, Texas - The Centenary swimming teams wrapped up their weekend against McMurry University with another solid performance from several Ladies and Gents on Saturday against the War Hawks in a dual meet inside Phillips Family Center.

McMurry claimed the win, 187-128, with the Ladies edged 81-76 and Gents falling by a score of 106-52. Centenary recorded six individual wins on Saturday after picking up seven on Friday evening.

Freshman Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) continued to shine as she claimed wins in the 400 IM (5:04.63) and 100 breast (1:12.36) after winning three times on Friday night. Freshman Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) won both the 100 fly (1:04.36) and 100 back (1:07.24) and teamed with Waddell, senior Anacelia Galeano-Balam (Baton Rouge, La.), and freshman Allie Matherne (Cut Off, La.) to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:02.26.

Freshman Cicely Jackson (Lafayette, La.) recorded a pair of runner-up finishes, swimming a time of 12:33.74 in the 1000 free and 2:18.98 in the 200 free. She also finished fifth in the 100 fly (1:15.65). Matherne finished third in the 50 free (29.07) and fifth in the 100 breast (1:21.27), and freshman Kennadi St. Clair (Duncanville, Texas) was right behind her in sixth place after swimming a time of 1:29.14. St. Clair also finished fourth in the 50 free (30.42).

Galeano-Balam finished third in the 200 free (2:22.54) and fourth in the 100 fly (1:13.76), freshman Sydney Welch (Moss Bluff, La.) finished fourth in the 100 back (1:27.53) and fifth in the 50 free (31.78) and freshman Stacy Brown (Baytown, Texas) was fifth in both the 200 free (2:38.83) and 100 back (1:28.12). The Ladies' team of Brown, sophomore Adriana de la Fuente (Baton Rouge, La.), St. Clair, and Welch swam a time of 4:47.17 to finish second in the 400 free relay.

On the men's side, freshman Nick Gordon (Aurora, Colo.) continued his early-season success as he won both the 50 free (23.13) and 100 fly (57.01) and finished second in the 100 back (1:04.21). Freshman Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) wrapped up another impressive weekend as he finished second in the 1000 free (11:42.54), third in the 400 IM (5:00.65), and fourth in the 100 back (1:05.57).

Senior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) finished second in the 100 fly (59.06) and third in both the 200 free (1:59.76) and 1000 free (11:49.49). Senior Aiden Peterkin (Zachary, La.) finished fifth in the 200 free (2:08.94) and 100 breast (1:23.08) and sixth in the 100 fly (1:12.41). Sophomore Jameson Feeney (Shreveport, La.) placed third in the 100 breast (1:13.04) and fourth in the 50 free (27.67) and 400 IM (5:24.91). Freshman Gunnar Durham (Lufkin, Texas) finished fifth in the 50 free (28.66) and 100 back (1:13.20) and sixth in the 200 free (2:16.78).

Centenary recorded an impressive 57 top-five finishes in the two meets this weekend and after tallying 33 in its two season-opening meets last weekend the Maroon and White now have 90 on the young season. The Ladies and Gents combined for 13 individual wins and eight runner-up finishes for the weekend and have 14 wins and 12 runner-up finishes through four meets this season.

Centenary will face Millsaps College in a dual meet in Jackson, Miss. on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.

The Maroon and White will hold their annual Intrasquad/Alumni Meet on Homecoming weekend, set for Saturday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at 1 p.m.).
