Volleyball To Face Dallas at Home on Saturday

Shreveport - The Centenary volleyball team will face the University of Dallas Crusaders on Saturday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with matches set for Noon and 4 p.m. at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (2-6) split a pair of matches in SCAC action last Saturday at home versus Schreiner Mountaineers, winning the first match 3-2 and then falling 3-1 in the second. Centenary was playing at home for the first time all season last Saturday after three consecutive weekends on the road to begin the season.

The Ladies rallied to take the first set of match one, 28-26, and then Schreiner responded with consecutive wins in sets two (25-21) and three (25-19). The Ladies then took set four, 25-20, to send it to a deciding fifth set which Centenary won, 15-11, for a 3-2 match one victory. Schreiner won the first two sets of match two by scores of 25-23 and 27-25. Centenary then won the third set, 25-17, and the Mountaineers sealed the win in the fourth set, 25-19.

Dallas is 1-7 on the season and was swept at Trinity last weekend. The Crusaders and Ladies split a pair of matches last season.

Freshman DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) and Freshman MB Caroline Richmond (Maequez, Texas) both had outstanding days for the Ladies. Proctor recorded a whopping 76 digs in the two matches, 36 in match one and 40 in match two. Proctor entered Saturday's play sixth in the conference in digs with 77 (4.81 per game) as she nearly matched her season total on Saturday. Richmond had 27 kills and 15 digs in another fine performance for the rookie. She entered Saturday's play third on the team with 55 digs and ranked second in kills with 48.

Junior Outside Hitter Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) recorded 22 kills, adding to her previous total of 72 (3.27 per game) which ranked second in the SCAC coming into Saturday's doubleheader and she added an impressive 31 digs and three aces. Davis entered Saturday as the team leader in kills and second in digs.

Junior S/RS Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) entered Saturday seventh in the conference in assists (120) for an average of 5.45 per game. She tallied 97 assists in the two matches and added 29 digs and six kills along with four aces. Junior MB Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) posted 19 kills and nine digs and sophomore MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) had 16 kills and three digs.

Freshman S Alania Bartie (Iowa, La.) had 21 kills and seven digs, sophomore DS Mariah Martinez (San Antonio, Texas) posted 23 digs, and junior DS/L Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) had 28 digs.
