Volleyball Splits SCAC DH at Home Versus Dallas

Shreveport - The Centenary volleyball team split a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday versus the University of Dallas Crusaders, falling 3-1 in the first match of the day and then winning 3-2, at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (3-7) were playing at home for the second-consecutive weekend after three straight weekends on the road to begin the season. The Ladies split a DH with Schreiner last weekend. Dallas is now 2-8 on the season.

The Crusaders took the first set of the opening match, 25-18, and then Centenary won the second set, 27-25. Dallas then won set three, 25-22, and won the match with an identical 25-22 score in the fourth set. In the second match, the Ladies opened with a 25-22 win and then Dallas responded by winning set two, 26-24. Centenary won set three, 25-23, by the Crusaders took set four, 25-11, to set up a fifth and deciding set. The Ladies clinched the match with a 15-10 victory in set five.

Junior Outside Hitter Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) had another solid performance as she registered 39 kills including 26 in the Ladies 3-2 match two win. She added six digs and now leads the team in kills (159) and ranks third in digs (90). Freshman MB Caroline Richmond (Maequez, Texas) continued her fantastic rookie season with 28 digs and 24 kills on Saturday. Richmond ranks second on the team in kills (118) behind Davis, and is second in digs (110).

Freshman DS/L Jaycie Proctor (Paris, Texas) had 41 digs a week after recorded a whopping 76 digs in two home matches versus Schreiner last weekend and is the team leader in the category. Junior MB Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) posted 15 kills and eight digs and sophomore MB Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) had 19 kills and three digs. Junior S/RS Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) tallied 28 digs, eight kills, and had 86 assists.

Freshman S Alania Bartie (Iowa, La.) had 11 kills and six digs, sophomore DS Mariah Martinez (San Antonio, Texas) posted 21 digs, and junior DS/L Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) had 26 digs. Freshman Tori Ligman (Bossier City, La.) contributed eight digs.

Centenary recorded 52 kills in the first match and 65 in the second along with 80 digs in match one followed by an impressive 101 in the match two victory. Dallas posted 44 kills and 81 digs in match one and 59 kills and 93 digs in the match two loss.

The Ladies will hit the road and face Southwestern next Saturday, April 3 in a doubleheader at Noon and 4 p.m. Centenary closes its regular season at home versus Colorado College on April 9 (5 p.m.) and April, 10  (1 p.m.).
