Gents Fall At Colorado College On Friday, 93-74

Colorado Spring, Colo. - The Centenary men's basketball team dropped a 93-74 decision on Friday evening to the Colorado College Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Reid Arena. 

The Gents (6-5, 2-2 SCAC) returned to action for the first time in nearly three weeks and lost for the first time since Dec. 8 after a pair of home wins over Dallas (Dec. 17) and Trinity (Dec. 19). The Tigers (4-11, 2-4 SCAC) had lost two in a row before Friday's win. 

Centenary had three players in double figures, led by 16 from sophomore G Braeden Board (Rayne, La.). Board has reached double figures four times this season and has done so three times in his last five games. Board shot 5-10 from the floor, made a pair of three pointers, and went 4-6 from the line. He added a rebound and a steal. Senior G AJ Hall (Thibodaux, La.) scored 12 points off the bench in 17 minutes and grabbed five rebounds. He made 4-9 shots overall, was 2-4 from beyond the arc and 2-4 from the free throw line. Junior F Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) scored 10 points in 21 minutes. He was 4-8 from the floor, grabbed four rebounds, and recorded three assists and three steals. 

Junior G Ralph Johnson (White Castle, La.) added eight points in 25 minutes on 3-12 shooting. He picked up a game-high four steals, two assists, and one rebound. Sophomore G Coby Harris (Lafayette, La.) scored a career-high seven points in a season-high 20 minutes. She shot 3-4 overall and made his only three-point attempt. Junior G Jalen Behr (Athens, Ga.) scored six in 22 minutes and grabbed three rebounds with an assist and a steal. He shot 2-5 overall and went 2-4 from the free throw line. Senior F Jarrell Taylor (Leesville, La.) came off the bench and scored five points in 14 minutes. He shot 2-4 overall and had a pair of steals, two rebounds, and an assist. 

Senior G Tevin Baker (Port Arthur, Texas) scored three points in 15 minutes with three assists. Junior F Joseph Wiggins (Bossier City, La.) scored two points in 14 minutes with one blocked shot. Junior G Drew Young (Lake Charles, La.) added three points in 17 minutes with an assist. 

The Gents fell behind 51-30 at halftime but outscored the Tigers 44-42 in the second half. Centenary shot 41 % overall for the game (25-61) and made 7-20 from beyond the arc (35 %) but struggled from the free throw line, missing 12 of 29 attempts for 58.6 %. The Tigers were hot all night, finishing the game at 56.9 % (33-58) and made 12-23 (52.2 %) from three-point range. Colorado College was solid at the free throw line as well, going 15-20. The Tigers outrebounded the Gents, 46-24, grabbing 35 on the defensive end and finished with 18 assists, seven steals, and three blocks. 

Centenary had 12 steals, 11 assists, and blocked one shot and only turned the ball over 11 times while forcing 23 Colorado College giveaways. Four Tigers scored in double figures, led by a game-high 19 points from Scott Cunningham. Devin Philio grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and scored nine points in 15 minutes off the bench. Scott McRoskey and Scott Ruegg each scored 12 and Edgar Romero scored 10. 

The Gents wrap up their weekend roadtrip on Sunday as the Gents face St. Thomas in another SCAC contest set for Noon in Houston, Texas.
