Gents Finish Second; Ladies Sixth in Hal Sutton Invitational

Bossier City, La. - The Centenary men's and women's golf teams finished second and sixth respectively at the annual Hal Sutton Invitational on Tuesday at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in their annual home tournament.

The Gents shot a 26-over par 602 for the tournament and a 22-over 310 in the final round to finish as the runner-up behind team champion Blinn College, who shot a 7-over 583 for the tournament and a 10-over 298 in Tuesday's final round. Peyton Coursey of Tyler Junior College claimed medalist honors as the top individual after firing a 5-under 67 on Tuesday which included a hole in one on the par 3 third hole. Coursey, who shot an even-par 72 in Monday's opening round, finished three shots ahead of Blinn's Riley Simmons.

Senior Brodey Warner (Brookeland, Texas) recorded the Gents' top finish of the tournament as he shot a 1-over par 145 to place fourth. Sophomore Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) earned another top-10 finish as he shot a 5-over 149 to place eighth. Freshman Riley Chase (Crosby, Texas) finished 13th at 8-over 152, senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) finished in a tie for 18th place at 12-over 156, and freshman Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) shot rounds of 84-80 -- 164 to finish 36th.

Senior Gage Garber (Coppell, Texas) and sophomore Devan Martin (Watson, La.) played as individuals both days and each earned top-50 finishes. Martin shot a 7-over par 79 on Tuesday to tie for 41st place and Garber finished 44th after a 94 on Tuesday.

The Ladies shot a 265-over par 841 for the tournament including a 132-over par 420 in Tuesday's final round. Senior Shannon Orlopp (Rogers, Ark.) posted the Ladies' best round of the day as she shot a 10-over par 82 and finished 19th for the tournament. Junior Abigail Hayes (Plano, Texas) shot a 13-over par 85 on Tuesday and tied for 11th overall. Freshman Madison Wing (Shreveport) and junior Lindsay Strohm (McKinney, Texas) finished 32nd and 33rd respectively.

Tyler JC claimed the women's tile, shooting a 59-over 635 to finish 17 shots ahead of runner-up East Texas Baptist. Tyler's Marie Larretche shot a 5-over 149 to win the individual title, fiishing nine shots ahead of her teammate, Kaitlyn Charles (14-over 158).

Next up for the Gents is a match against Hendrix on Saturday, April 3 in Little Rock, Ark. The Ladies will play consecutive tournaments over four straight-days to end the month. Centenary will face Mary Hardin-Baylor in Killeen, Texas on March 27 and 28 and then take part in the Linda Lowery Invitational in Round Rock, Texas March 29-30.
