Shreveport – The Centenary men's golf program has released its 2021-22 schedule, as the Gents will participate in a pair of tournaments and one dual match this fall.
Centenary will begin its fall competition on Monday, Sept. 27 and Tuesday, Sept. 28 in the Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational in Temple, Texas. The tournament will be held at Sammons Park Golf Course and wraps up Tuesday with the final round of play.
The Gents will take a break from tournament action to face Millsaps College at Black Bear Golf Club in Delhi, La. on Oct. 7 in a dual match before wrapping up play in the fall with the University of Dallas Crusader Invitational Oct. 18-19 at the WinStar Golf Club in Thackerville, Okla. Centenary's spring schedule is still tentative and will be released at a later time.
"We got off to a great start last spring and unfortunately faded in the end so we are looking forward to getting off to that great start again, learning from the mistakes we made the second half of the season and finishing this whole season a success," said Centenary head coach Emlyn Aubrey.
"It will be all new golf courses for the Gents this Fall and sometimes that lowers expectations and believe it or not, that can help relax the mind and improve play in golf."
"Most starters are back this season with junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) and senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) leading the way," said Aubrey. Sophomore transfer Drew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) will more than make up for losing two solid starters from last year, but Sophomore Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.), Junior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) and Freshman Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) are more than ready to fill in the gaps.
The Gents recorded a runner-up finish in their home tournament, the Hal Sutton Invitational, last season at The Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City. Polan and senior Brodey Warner garnered All-SCAC honors as each finished in the top 10 at the 2021 SCAC Championships in April. Polan was also honored as the 2021 SCAC Men's Golf Elite 19 award winner at the conclusion of the championships. Polan recorded five top-10 finishes last season, including a tie for first in the Pinecrest Invitational which he lost in a playoff. Blair earned two top-20 finishes and John recorded three.
Centenary will go with a lineup of Polan, Bennett, John, Blair, Martin, and Jones at the Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational as six players will compete and the best four scores will count.
The SCAC Championships will be held April 18-19 at Valler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas.
