Gents Finish Sixth At Pinecrest Invitational; Polan Records Runner-Up Finish

Longview, Texas - The Centenary men's golf team finished sixth in the 2022 Pinecrest Invitational hosted by LeTourneau University on Tuesday as junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) finished as the individual runner-up at the Pinecrest Country Club.

The Gents shot a final-round 315 to finish the tournament at 80-over par 932. Centenary, also sixth after Monday's play, shot a 316 in round one and a 301 in round two. Schreiner won the tournament at +26 – 878 to finish 14 shots ahead of Concordia (Texas) at the par-71, 6,609-yard PCC.

Centenary was joined by the host YellowJackets and 13 other schools - East Texas Baptist University, Hendrix College, Schreiner University, Tyler Junior College, Jacksonville College, Murray State, University of Houston-Victoria, Central College, Dallas Christian College, Concordia University, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Louisiana Christian University, and McMurry University.

Polan, who held a share of the lead after one round and was up four shots after round two, shot a final-round 4-over 75 to finish at 1-under par 212 and three shots behind individual champion Zhao Yung Gu of Schreiner (4-under par 209). Polan has thrived in his career at the course, tying for the individual lead and falling in a playoff last season after a third-place finish as a freshman. Gu and Polan were the only two players to finish under par.

Polan actually turned in his lowest total of the three tournaments on Tuesday as he posted a 215 as a rookie and a 213 last season. He earned his fourth-career top-five finish and seventh top-10 finish on Tuesday. He shot a 1-under par 70 in round one, a 4-under 67 in round two before his 75 on Tuesday. Polan has now earned at least a top-20 finish in eight of his last nine tournaments.

Centenary sophomore Drew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) earned a top-10 finish as he shot a 15-over par 228 to tie for ninth place. Senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) shot a 29-over 242 to finish 36th, sophomore Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) finished 41st at 38-over 251, junior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) finished in 47th place at 58-over 271 and freshman Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) finished 48th at 68-over 281.

The Gents will next be in action on March 21-22 as they host the annual Hal Sutton Invitational at the Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City.
