Gents Finish 10th In University of Dallas Crusader Invitational

Thackerville, Okla.  The Centenary men's golf team shot 13 strokes better in its final round on Tuesday than in round one as the Gents finished in 10th place at the University of Dallas Crusader Invitational at the WinStar Golf Course.

The Gents, playing their final tournament of the fall season, shot a 19-over par 307 on Tuesday after posting a 32-over par 320 in the opening round on Monday. East Texas Baptist University took the team title by six strokes over runner-up St. Thomas as the Tigers shot a +10 586 for the tournament. St. Thomas finished at +16 592. Centenary finished at 51-over par 627 for the tournament.

Host Dallas and Howard Payne tied for third place at 19-over par 595, Mary Hardin-Baylor finished fifth at 26-over par 602, Texas Lutheran (28-over par 604) placed sixth, Schreiner and LeTourneau tied for seventh at +35 611, and UT Dallas finished in ninth just ahead of the Gents at 39-over par 615. McMurry and Belhaven tied for 11th place at 58-over par 634 and Hendrix placed 13th at 81-over 657.

Chase Maus of Texas Lutheran won the individual title as he fired a 2-under par 142. Jonathan Miller of St. Thomas finished at even par 144, two shots behind Maus. Patrick Smetek of St. Thomas, the leader after Monday's opening round after carding an impressive 3-under 69, struggled on Tuesday with a 6-over 78 to finish in a tie for eighth place at 3-over par 147.

Sophomore Drew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) earned the Gents' top finish as he tied for 35th place after shooting an 11-over par 155. He shot a final-round three-over 75 following an eight-over par 80 on Monday. Junior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) lowered his score from Monday by six shots as he recorded a 4-over 76 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 47th place and earned the third top-50 finish of his career.

Senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.) tied for 55th place at 17-over par after shooting 80-81 – 161. Sophomore Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.) shot the Gents' lowest round on Monday as he turned in a 6-over par 78 and recorded an 85 on Tuesday to place in a tie for 60th at 19-over par 163. Freshman Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) shot a 46-over par 190 to finish 84th. Junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) shot a 75 on Tuesday but did not place as he did not play on Monday.

Centenary's complete spring schedule will be announced soon. The Gents will host the Hal Sutton Invitational, their annual home tournament in March at The Golf Club at Stonebridge in Bossier City.
