Ladies Basketball Picks up Road SCAC Win, Completes Season Sweep of Dallas

IRVING, Texas – The Ladies used a 12-2 run in the beginning of the second to take a double-digit lead and never led by less than three the rest of the way as Centenary (6-15, 4-8 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) completed the season sweep of Dallas (2-19, 1-11 SCAC) with a 64-55 win Tuesday night, February 5.

After senior Savanah Doty hit 2-of-3 from distance in the first quarter to help Centenary lead 15-12 after one, she went 3-of-4 in the second to help the Ladies lead by double digits. Dallas cut the lead to 15-14 until Doty hit a triple. The Crusaders made another basket, but a 12-2 run in a 2:32 span gave Centenary a double-digit lead. Senior Jasmine Morris made back-to-back layups before junior Deunya Small made a layup. Dallas hit a layup off an offensive rebound, but Doty hit back-to-back triples to give Centenary a 12-point lead.

Doty scored a game-high 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting while also grabbing seven rebounds. Sophomore Hayley Washington scored 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting, adding eight boards. Morris chipped in 11 points while Small grabbed 11 boards.

Dallas briefly pulled within a single possession in the fourth, but Centenary iced the game away by going 15-for-27 from the line in the quarter. The Ladies also committed a season-low 12 turnovers for the contest.

Centenary built its lead to 13 in the middle of the third – its largest of the game – before an 11-2 run by the Crusaders cut the lead to four. Faith Starnes made a jumper and layup before Gracie Williams made a pair from the line. Washington pushed the lead back to nine on a layup, but Williams completed a three-point play and Starnes made a fastbreak layup.

Starnes led Dallas with 16 points, followed by 14 points and 14 rebounds by Jules Oliveti. Gracie Williams chipped in 13.

Centenary returns to action this weekend with its final home games of the 2018-19 season. The Ladies welcome Colorado College Friday night, February 8, at  5:30 p.m. The Ladies celebrate Senior Night on Saturday, February 9, at 4 p.m. against Johnson & Wales.
