Ladies Fall at Trinity, 8-0, On Friday

San Antonio, Texas- The Centenary women's soccer team was blanked by the Trinity University Tigers, 8-0, on Friday evening in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at Paul McGinlay Soccer Field.

The Ladies (2-7) fell behind 3-0 at the half and then the Tigers (7-0-1) added five-second half goals to record the conference victory on their home field. Centenary lost its fifth-straight match and have been shut out in all five matches. The Ladies, despite Friday's loss, are 11-6 on the road since the beginning of the 2019 season which includes a historic win at Alcorn State back on Sept. 8 as they defeated a Division I opponent for the first time in the current division III era (2011-present) with the 2-1 win over the Lady Braves.

Centenary played two goalkeepers, as senior Avery Sanderson (McKinney, Texas) started and allowed seven of the eight goals but made nine saves. Freshman Emma Oertling (Lake Charles, La.) allowed one goal and recorded four saves in just over 17 minutes of action. Trinity GK Joey Finley started and played the first half and pitched the shutout. Trinity's Kaity Ward scored three goals and had two assists while her teammate Cassie Bowers scored a pair of goals.

The Ladies wrap up the road weekend on Sunday with another conference match versus the Schreiner Mountaineers at Noon in Kerrville, Texas. Centenary's next home match will be Friday, Oct. 8 versus St. Thomas at 5 p.m.
