Ladies Earn Double-Overtime Tie On Friday Versus St. Thomas

Shreveport - The Centenary women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 0-0 double-overtime tie on Friday versus the St. Thomas Celts in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at Mayo Field.

The Ladies (2-7-2, 0-1-2 SCAC) played their second-consecutive double-OT match as they tied the Schreiner Mountaineers, 1-1, on Sunday in Kerrville, Texas. Centenary, back at home for the first time in nearly three weeks on Friday, is now 1-0-1 versus the Celts (1-7-3, 0-1-2 SCAC) this season after recording a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime victory back on Sept. 10 in Houston.

Centenary was out-shot, 12-7, in the match and 6-1 in the first half but kept the Celts off the scoreboard, anchored by senior GK Avery Sanderson (McKinney, Texas) who played all 120 minutes and made four saves. St. Thomas keeper Briana Salinas also went the distance and recorded three saves.

The Ladies are still in search of their first home win of the season, as they are now 0-3-1 at Mayo Field following Friday's draw. Centenary is still an impressive 13-7-1 in its last 21 home matches.

Centenary will take a break from conference play on Sunday as the Ladies travel to Longview, Texas to face LeTourneau in a match set for 5 p.m. The Maroon and White are then back home for a pair of SCAC matches on Friday, Oct. 15 versus Southwestern (7:30 p.m.) and then face Texas Lutheran in its annual Senior Day match on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
