Shreveport - The Centenary Cheer team will take the floor for the first time in person this season on Saturday at the Shreveport Convention Center for the Worldwide Spirit Association Competition.
The team will be entered in the small co-ed game time division. The game time division consists of three separate parts - fight song, situational/sideline, and band chant and will incorporate elements of stunting, tumbling, and game day to encourage the crowd to participate.
"Our team has been working on these three elements for over a month now and we are excited to finally be able to take the floor," said Centenary head coach Kaylee King.
"After earning a first-place finish and receiving a lot of great feedback from our first virtual competition, the team is eager to see the improvements they have been working on come to fruition."
"The elements that will be showcased are all a part of our nationals routines. During the regular season, we have the challenge of putting all three routines together into one performance than cannot exceed three minutes. This is different than nationals where the team will take the floor three separate times for three individual one-minute performances."
"With this comes additional challenges in choreography that the team has spent a lot of time practicing meticulously. I am looking forward to seeing their performance on Saturday. It will give us a lot of useful feedback and also allow them to step out on the stage under the lights to perform and for a large number of them, this will be their first time on the competition stage."
The Worldwide Spirit Association will be offering discounted tickets to students who are interested in supporting the cheer team on Saturday. Performance time is set for 3:55pm with awards scheduled for 6:45pm.
