Gents Eighth After Day One At UHV Fall Classic

Victoria, Texas – The Centenary men's golf team sits in eighth place after shooting a 76-over par 652 on Monday on the opening day of the UHV Fall Classic hosted by University of Houston-Victoria at Victoria Country Club.

The Gents shot a 44-over par 332 in round one and followed that with a 32-over 320 in round two. Centenary, coming off of an impressive performance at the UMHB Men's Invitational hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor last month in Temple, Texas, is nine shots ahead of University of the Southwest.

Host Houston-Victoria is the leader after two rounds as the Jaguars shot a 27-over par 603 and lead Blinn College's "A" team by five shots. The University of Texas at San Antonio is third at 37-over par 613. The Jaguars' Joshua Van Der Wath is the individual leader after shooting a 1-under par 143 and is two shots ahead of UT-San Antonio's Jacob Pena (1-over 145).

Sophomore Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) shot the Gents' lowest round on Monday as he finished at 11-over 155 after rounds of 81-74 and is tied for 15th place. Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) shot 80-81 – 161 (+17) and is 35th. Bennett is coming off of his first-career individual victory after firing an 11-under par 129 at the UMHB Men's Invitational.

Senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) is tied for 48th place after shooting a 26-over par 170 (83-87) and junior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) shot a 40-over par 184 (88-96) to sit in 53rd place. Freshman Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) was disqualified and did not record a score.

The Gents are joined this week by the host Jaguars along with Blinn College, the University of Dallas, Louisiana Christian University, Our Lady of the Lake University, University of the Southwest, University of Texas at San Antonio, and the University of St. Thomas.

Play begins on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for the final 18 holes at the par 72, 6,870-yard course.
