Muscle Shoals, Ala. – The Centenary men's golf team improved by 15 strokes in Monday's second round as the Gents are in 10th place after two days of The Visit Florence/Shoals Intercollegiate at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail "Fighting Joe" Course.

The Gents shot a 26-over par 314 on Monday after a 41-over par 329 in Sunday's opening round and are at 67-over par 643 overall. Centenary is joined by nine other schools in the tournament and are being tested by the par-72, 7,165-yard course. Tuesday's third and final round is set for 7:30 a.m.

The Gents are two shots ahead of Belhaven University and 16 shots ahead of Centre College's "B" Team. Emory University, the tournament host, is in third place at 18-over par 594. Emory's "B" team is ninth, just in front of the Gents by 19 strokes.

Carnegie Mellon University and Methodist University are the co-leaders at 1-under par 572 and are the only teams in the field currently under par. Methodist's Chase Walts holds the individual lead at 7-under par 237, one shot ahead of a pair of his teammates – Aiden Spampinato and Caleb Ryan at 6-under par 138.

Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) shot an even-par 72 on Monday to move up nine spots and is now tied for 13th at 5-over par 149 after a 5-over 77 in round one. Freshman Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) shot a 10-over par 82 on Monday and slipped to 42nd place after shooting the Gents' lowest round on Monday (4-over par 76 – T17th place).

Sophomore Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) is tied for 51st place at 21-over par 165, senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) is in 57th place at a 27-over par 171 and junior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) is in 61st place at 53-over par 197. Borchert shots three strokes lower on Monday than in round one, Jones shaved five strokes off his game, and Martin shot 13 strokes lower in round two, improving from a 92 to a 79.
