Gents Finish 10th At The Visit Florence/Shoals Intercollegiate

Muscle Shoals, Ala. – The Centenary men's golf team finished 10th in The Visit Florence/Shoals Intercollegiate on Tuesday as the Gents shot an 87-over par 951 at the par-72, 7,165-yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail "Fighting Joe" Course.

Centenary shot its lowest round of the tournament in Tuesday's final around – a 20-over 308. The Gents shot a 41-over par 329 in Sunday's opening round and followed that 26-over par 314 on Monday. The Gents improved their score by 15 strokes from round one to round two and then shaved six more strokes off on Tuesday.

Carnegie Mellon University won the tournament with an impressive 11-under par 853 to finish 10 shots ahead of Methodist University (1-under par 863). Emory University, the tournament host, finished third at 9-over par 873. Centre College and Wisconsin-Eau Claire finished in a tie for fourth place at 53-over par 917. Bethel University (MN) finished sixth (56-over par 920), Millsaps College was seventh (58-over 922), Emory's "B" Team finished eighth (62-over 926), LaGrange College was ninth (+72 – 936), the Gents 10th, and Belhaven University finished 11th (92-over par 956) and Centre College's "B" squad finished 12th at 113-over par 977.

Methodist's Chase Walts won the individual title as he finished at 9-under par 207, three shots ahead of his teammate Aiden Spampinato (6-under par 210). Four golfers finished in a tie for third place at 5-under par 211 – Emory's Jackson Klutznick, Methodist's Caleb Ryan, Carnegie Mellon's David Zhang, and Carnegie Mellon's Justin Chan.

Senior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) was the Gents' top finisher in the tournament as he shot a 4-over par 220 to tie for 12th place. He fired a 1-under par 71 in Tuesday's final round preceded by an even-par 72 on Monday and a 5-over par 77 in Sunday's opening round. Bennett now has one individual win, two top-five finishes, and a top-15 finish this season.

Freshman Aubrey Snell (Shreveport, La.) tied for 43rd place at 20-over par 236 as he shot 76-82-78 for the tournament. Sophomore Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) finished in a tie for 47th place at 28-over 244 after rounds of 84-81-79. Senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.) finished 54th (35-over par 251) after shooting 92-79-80 and junior Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) finished 61st after shooting an 82-over par 298 (101-96-101).

Next up for the Gents is the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships set for April 21-23 at Whit Bluff Golf Club in Whitney, Texas.
