Columbus, Miss. – The Centenary men's soccer team fell 1-0 in its season opener to the Piedmont University Lions in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon played at Roger Short Soccer Complex on the campus of Mississippi University for Women (MUW).

The Gents (0-1) and Lions (1-0) were facing each other for the first time in Saturday's neutral-site match. Centenary returns to action on Sunday to face the Huntingdon University Hawks in another non-conference contest set for 2 p.m.

Nathan Jacome's goal in the 60th minute for the Lions off the assist from Colin Vogel was the lone goal of the game and winning score after the teams battled to a scoreless tie at halftime.

Freshman GK Sebastian Lutin (Fort Worth, Texas) made his collegiate debut for the Gents and made six saves in his 90 minutes of action. Piedmont's Bobby Woods also went the distance in goal and made five saves.

Centenary was aggressive despite not finding the net as the Maroon and White wound up with twice as many (20-10) shots as Piedmont and took nine corner kicks to the Lions' six. Piedmont was whistled for 17 fouls while Centenary 11.

Three Centenary players went all 90 minutes, six played 70 or more, and 10 played 50+. Six Gents made their debut on Saturday and 19 players played in all.
