Maroon and White Set For Weekend Meet At Millsaps

Flowood, Miss. – The Centenary swimming teams will face the Millsaps College Majors in a non-conference dual meet on Saturday at 1 p.m. at GRIT Training.

Centenary completed a pair of conference dual meets at home last weekend against the McMurry University War Hawks, falling short on both days on the men's and women's side but despite the losses the Maroon and White recorded several outstanding individual performances. Centenary opened its season on Oct. 1 against Ozarks at home by recording 11 individual wins and one relay win. 

Sophomore Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) highlighted Saturday's action as she recorded a pair of individual wins- in the 200 and 1,000 free. She swam a winning time of 2:04.67 in the 200 and finished the 1,000 in 11:13.35. On the men's side, junior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) led the way with a win in the 100 fly (58.79) and a runner-up finish in the 200 free (2:00.77).

Vacula teamed with junior Bryn Jenkins (Houston, Texas), junior Anacelia Galeano Balam (Baton Rouge, La.), and senior Christine Goodman (Alexandria, La.) to win the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:04.96. Goodman earned a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, as she swam a time of 1:18.34, and finished third in the 400 IM (5:43.65). Hebert, Jenkins, Galeano Balam, and Vacula placed second in the 400-yard free relay.

Galeano Balam finished second in the 100 fly (1:12.98) and fourth in the 200 free (2:20.43) and senior Katie Malicoat (Wichita, Kan.) finished fifth behind Galeano Balam in the 200 free (2:27.79). Senior Camryn Hebert (Youngsville, La.) finished third in the 50 free (29.01), Jenkins was fifth (29.70), and freshman Adriana de la Fuente (Baton Rouge, La.) placed sixth with a time of 33.45. Malicoat (1:21.84) and de la Fuente (1:38.53) finished 5-6 in the 100 breast and in the 100 back, Jenkins placed fourth (1:11.65) and Hebert finished fifth (1:15.59).

On the men's side, Barbee teamed with freshman Jameson Feeney (Shreveport, La.), freshman Donovan Tohill (Lumberton, Texas) and junior Aiden Peterkin (Zachary, La.) to finish third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:48.10). Tohill finished fourth in both the 50 free (24.98) and 100 back (1:09.07). Feeney finished fourth in the 100 breast (1:12.64) and fifth in the 100 fly (1:09.57). Peterkin earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 free (1:05.31) and fifth in the 100 back (1:11.56).

On Friday in first meeting between the teams, Barbee won the 200 fly in a time of 2:10.72 and placed third in the 500 free (5:34.38). Hebert earned a runner-up finish in the 500 free (6:13.35), Jenkins did so in the 200 back (2:31.86), and Malicoat earned a runner-up finish in the 100 free (1:04.09).

Galeano Balam finished third in the 500 free (6:18.01), and Goodman recorded a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 breast (2:49.72) and 100 free (1:04.51).

Malicoat also finished fourth in the 200 IM (2:39.91) and fifth in the 200 breast (2:54.81). Jenkins also earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 free (1:08.27) and de la Fuente finished seventh in the 100 free (1:14.01).

On the men's side, Feeney had a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 200 breast (2:39.77) and the 200 IM (2:31.19). Tohill finished fourth in both the 200 back (2:28.78) and the 100 free (57.98). Peterkin finished fifth in the 200 back (2:38.01) and the 500 free (5:54.66).

Barbee, Feeney, Peterkin, and Tohill teamed to finish third in the 400-medley relay (4:15.54) and third in the 200-free relay (1:46.43).
