Barbee Swims Season Fast Time At Millsaps On Saturday

Flowood, Miss. – The Centenary swimming teams were back in action on Saturday afternoon as the Maroon and White dropped a decision to the Millsaps College Majors in a non-conference dual meet at GRIT Training Facility.

The Ladies fell short, 144-68 while the Gents lost 143-30. Centenary, back in action for the first time since its annual Alumni/Intrasquad meet on Nov. 5, was facing Millsaps for the second time this season after the Gents lost 120-52 and the Ladies fell 124-73 on Oct. 22 in Flowood.

Sophomore Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) highlighted the meet for the Maroon and White as she continued her stellar season with three more individual wins. Vacula claimed three individual wins for the second meet in a row and now has an impressive 11 this season and 18 in her career.

Junior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) and senior Bryn Jenkins (Houston, Texas) each claimed an individual win and the Ladies' foursome of Jenkins, Vacula, junior Anacelia Galeano Balam (Baton Rouge, La.), and senior Christine Goodman (Alexandria, La.) placed second in the 200-yard medley relay, swimming a time of 2:07.60.

Vacula won the 1000 free in a time of 11:18.34, the 100 back (1:05.59), and the 200 IM in a season-best time of 2:26.42. Barbee swam his fastest time of the season in the 100 free and Jenkins' time in the 50 back was her second-fastest of the season.

Junior Aiden Peterkin (Zachary, La.) finished third in both the 100 free (57.23) and 200 free (2:07.25), freshman Jameson Feeney (Shreveport, La.) placed third in the 50 breast with a season-best time of 32.71 and 100 back (1:09.74). Feeney and Peterkin placed sixth and seventh in the 50 fly while Barbee earned a runner-up finish (26.73). Goodman (36.64) and senior Katie Malicoat (Wichita, Kan.) placed third and fourth in the 50 breast as Malicoat swam a time of 37.25.

Galeano Balam finished third in the 100 fly (1:11.87) and in the 50 free, Malicoat finished third (29.12) and Jenkins finished fifth (29.93). Galeano Balam and Jenkins placed third (1:06.34) and fourth (1:06.70) in the 100 free. Goodman finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:44.85.

Centenary will compete in the Austin College Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. in Sherman, Texas.
