Former Swimmer Miguel Vasquez Competing At FINA World Swimming Championships

Melbourne, Australia - Former Centenary swimmer Miguel Vasquez is representing Guatemala this week at the FINA World Swimming Championships. 

Vasquez (Lafayette, La.) capped his decorated career with the Gents in 2021 as he was named the SCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Elite 19 award winner at the conference championships. He earned all-SCAC honors at the 2021 championships in three individual events: the 100 butterfly, the 100 backstroke and the 100 freestyle, and was a member of both the All-SCAC 200 and 400 medley relay teams.

He was a two-time member of the SCAC Academic Honor Roll in his time with the Gents and boasted a 4.00 GPA in theoretical mathematics as well as earning all-conference honors multiple times. He also holds the top time in program history in the 100-yard backstroke as he swam the event in a time of 50.66 on Feb. 15, 2019 at the SCAC Championships and also holds four additional top 10 times all-time in Gents history in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 100 fly.
