Centenary Men’s Competitive Club Volleyball Team Opens Season Wednesday

Shreveport – The Centenary Men's Competitive Club Volleyball team will begin its 2021 season on Wednesday as the Gents welcome Louisiana Tech to the Gold Dome for a 7 p.m. match.

Centenary athletics has made history as the school becomes one of the first in the state of Louisiana to offer the sport under the direction of the athletic department.

"We are excited to kick off our season even if the schedule looks a little different than we thought," said head coach Ashley McDonough. Louisiana Tech has more experience than us as a club program. However, we competed really well with them and I feel we are putting a much better product on the court this spring compared to last year. This will be a fun match to watch!"

"League play is still up in the air but our single matches are business as usual. The guys have worked really hard over the last year. I expect big things from several of our guys. Senior Jayman Reed is cranking balls at 10ft and getting chest level over the net. Junior Captain Daniel Hernandez has improved all around from his leadership style to physical fitness to basic footwork. Newcomer junior libero Colin Schultz came to us from Men's Soccer and took to the sport instantly. It's easy to coach guys who are athletic, hard-working, and coachable. All three words describe Colin."

"Men's volleyball is of the fastest growing NCAA sports," said head coach Ashley McDonough. We are laying the groundwork for the sport in NWLA by starting a men's collegiate club program in an area that traditionally hasn't featured much volleyball (men's or women's) up until recent years. We will continue growing to offer more boys and men the opportunity to play."
