Men's Competitive Club Volleyball Falls In Season Opener to Louisiana Tech

Shreveport – The Centenary Men's Competitive Club Volleyball team opened its 2021 season with a five-set loss to Louisiana Tech last Wednesday in the Gold Dome.

The Gents (0-1) were playing in their first regular-season match after Centenary athletics made history as the school has become one of the first in the state of Louisiana to offer the sport under the direction of the athletic department.

Louisiana Tech took the first set, 25-15, but the Gents responded with their own 25-15 victory in the second set. The Bulldogs edged the Gents, 25-22 in the third set, and then centenary evened the match with a 25-22 advantage in the fourth set. Louisiana Tech clinched the match with a 15-7 victory in the fifth and decisive set.

Senior Jayman Reed (Dallas, Texas) led the Gents with 35 total attacks and 19 digs and added eight kills. Junior middle blocker Divine Martin (Houma, La.) tallied 22 total attacks, eight digs, and five kills.

Junior outside hitter Ezri Gomez (Chihuahua, Mexico) led the Gents with 10 kills and had 26 total attacks. He also had 12 digs and a pair of service aces. Junior Captain Daniel Hernandez (Irving, Texas) had 13 digs and two service aces. Junior libero Colin Schultz (Denham Springs, La.) had 11 digs.

The Gents and Bulldogs will rematch this evening in Ruston, La.
