Varner Three-peats on Tournament Wins, Repeats as SCAC Golfer of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE Ga. - On the heels of her third-consecutive collegiate tournament win, dating back to last year's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, junior Centenary Ladies golfer Jessica Varner garnered SCAC Golfer of the Week honors for the second consecutive time.

"What can I say about Jessie?" said head coach Emlyn Aubrey after the tournament. "She set out to be number one this year and is right on track for that at this point. This has been a fantastic start to this season."

With her best collegiate score during the final round (72, even par), Varner fired her best two-round tournament total (147, +3) of her career to win the Al Jones Memorial for the second consecutive year. Trailing by two strokes and with three bogeys through seven holes during the final round on Tuesday, Varner tallied four birdies, a bogey, and six pars shoot even par and win the tournament by three strokes. She led the field in both par-5 scoring (-4) and birdies carded (seven).

With the victory, Varner now has four tournament wins in her collegiate career.

The Ladies golf team finished eighth in the Al Jones Memorial at the Cascades Golf Club with a 693 (+117).

Centenary will conclude the fall 2017 season next month, October 23-24, at the Abilene Collegiate, hosted by Hardin-Simmons.
