Track & Field Teams Sixth After Day One Of SCAC Championships

Georgetown, Texas – The Centenary men's and women's track and field teams are each in sixth place at the conclusion of day one at the 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the Southwestern University Track & Field Facility.

The Ladies earned one point and are tied with Schreiner University in the standings while the Gents earned 10 points and are in sixth place alone. Trinity leads on both the men's and women's side with the men netting 142 points and the women 136.

The two-day event, hosted by SCAC member Southwestern University, features the Ladies and Gents along with the host Pirates, Colorado College, the University of Dallas, Schreiner University, The University of St. Thomas, and Texas Lutheran University and wraps up on Sunday.

Sunday's action begins at 8 a.m. with track events followed by field events at 9 a.m. The afternoon session begins at Noon with the awards ceremony set for 2:20 p.m.

Junior Xavier Venious (Bossier City, La.) recorded Centenary's top individual finish of the day as he placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, running a time of 55.00. Trinity's Justin Johnson ran a winning time of 54.09. Venious also teamed with junior Coby Harris (Lafayette, La.), freshman Lydell Hunter (New Orleans. La.), and freshman Randy Levert (New Orleans, La.) to finish fourth in the men's 4 x 100 meter relay (43.54).

Freshman Eli Melton (Carencro, La.) finished 12th in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase (11:45.55) and 16th in the 800 Meter Run (2:10.79). Senior Veronica Dougherty (McAllen, Texas) earned a 22nd-place finish in the 800 Meter Run (2:49.07) and freshman Julianna Malloy (Dallas, Texas) finished 22nd in the 200 Meter Dash (29.13). Freshman Lauren Castillo (Keller, Texas) finished 26th in the 800 (3:11.74).

Harris ran a time of 23.08 to finish 22nd in the 200 Meter Dash and Levert finished 25th (23.71). Hunter was right behind him in 26th place (23.73) and freshman Joshua Ware (Shreveport, La.) placed 27th (24.00).
