Montes and Wells Finalists for Prestigious SCAC Awards

Lawrenceville, Ga. – Centenary seniors Kyra Montes of women's soccer and Taylor Wells of men's golf have been named finalists for 2020 SCAC Woman of the Year and 2020 SCAC Man of the Year respectively, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday.

The awards recognize the conference's senior female and male student-athletes who has best distinguished herself/himself throughout her/his collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence and service and leadership. To be nominated, student-athletes must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in her primary sport by the end of the 2020 spring season, received her/his undergraduate degree prior to the conclusion of the summer 2020 term and had a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.500 (4.000 scale).

Montes, a Shreveport native, is one of seven finalists on the women's side while Wells, also a Shreveport native, is one of five finalists on the men's side. A list of Montes' notable accomplishments on and off the field are below:

The other six finalists on the women's side are: Ann Savage of Austin College, Riley Wadehra of Colorado College, Hannah Ortiz of Schreiner University, Mary Cardone of Southwestern University, DeAnna Hernandez of Texas Lutheran University and Abby Holland of Trinity University.

Winners are expected to be announced later this month.
