Cheer Shines At Worldwide Spirit Association Competition

Shreveport - The Centenary Competitive Cheer team took the floor for the first time in person this season on Saturday at the Shreveport Convention Center for the Worldwide Spirit Association Competition and made the most of the opportunity with a superb performance.

Centenary received a 91 out of 100 possible points for their college co-ed game day performance. The team earned a 19.5 out of 20 possible points for their performance in the fight song portion of their routine. They also earned a 9.5 out of 10 for the cheer section as well.

The team earned perfect scores in game day, visual appeal, material relevant to Gameday environment, and motion technique/crowd leading tools.

"I'm so proud of how the team performed on Saturday," said head coach Kaylee King.

Like all teams, they have had their ups and downs at practices, and it's always a great feeling to see it come to fruition in a positive way when they take the floor. Earning these type of scores so early in the season, gives us a phenomenal foundation to build upon as we get closer and closer to our trip to nationals in February."

"I am proud of the team for earning perfect scores in three categories as that's not an easy thing to accomplish. I look forward to continuing to build upon the difficulty that we put out in our routines and being able to really showcase what this team is capable of. We will spend our time this week working on just that as we prepare for our next competition on Dec. 9 in Kenner, La."

Centenary will compete in the AmeriCheer "The Big Easy Championship" on Saturday.
